Enquiry to Solar Heat Europe members and indirect members on solar thermal production capacity
  • Enquiry to Solar Heat Europe members and indirect members on solar thermal production capacity

  • On 29 June 2024, Regulation (EU) 2024/1735 on establishing a framework of measures for strengthening Europe’s net-zero technology manufacturing ecosystem (the Net-Zero Industry Act or NZIA) entered into force. This regulation establishes a framework to ensure the EU’s access to a secure and sustainable supply of net-zero technologies by scaling up their manufacturing capacity and supply chains.

Solar Thermal is clearly identified as one of the technologies in this list of EU clean tech sectors. (see briefing info via SHE’s extranet herewith).

The European Commission has approached the Solar Heat Europe secretariat in Brussels recently as they are seeking to have more data on the production capacity of our sector. This is in the context of the EU political context calling for even more energy security, more independence to access to energy, local supply chains and greater uptake of renewable energy towards the 2050 climate objectives. This data will be used in a report that the Joint Research Center will  issues in September 2025 (cf former CETO report herewith). The European Commission is focusing on the following products, as outlined in the delegated Act of NZIA.

Providing adequate input to this survey is important as it will demonstrate our potential to actively contribute to the energy transition and give further visibility top our sector. Being already an EU made technology, this gives us a strong position to continue to grow and gain further political support.

All information will be aggregated and treated confidentially. Please do not hesitate to contact us in case you have any further question.

Thanks in advance for sending us your contribution before 28 May 2025.
