  • Safety-Care for Families is a practical training program for families and caregivers of individuals with challenging behaviors at home or in community settings. Training is offered in three levels:

    Essential Skills

    • Topics
      • Legal Issues
      • Behavioral Understanding
      • Differential Reinforcement
      • Preventative Strategies
      • De-escalation Techniques
      • Family Safety Planning
      • Post-Incident Response
    • Requirements
      • Must be 16 years old or older
      • No recertification needed

    Intermediate Skills

    • Topics
      • Use of behavioral momentum to improve cooperation
      • Protective shuffling
      • Shoulder checking
      • Wrist releasing
      • Grab stripping
      • Front hair pull releasing
      • Front choke releasing
      • Bite releasing
      • Managing complex grab situations
    • Requirements
      • Requires Essential Skills Training as a prerequisite
      • Must be 18 years old or older
      • Referral from BCBA, Social Worker, Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Psychologist or Mental Health Counselor
      • Requires annual recertification

    Advanced Skills

      • Safe use of physical management
      • 1-Person Stability Hold
      • 2-Person Stability Hold
      • Floor Drop Transition
      • Forward Transport
      • Release
      • Recovery
      • Debriefing
    • Requirements
      • Requires Essential Skills and Intermediate Skills Trainings as a prerequisite
      • Must be 18 years old or older
