APPLICATION
Each Colin F. Burrows scholarship nominee must submit the following for consideration:
- A Completed online application form
- A Curriculum Vitae (resumé)
- A statement from the candidate as to how the VMX experience will allow him or her to develop educational programs and enhance the standards of veterinary care in their region
- Two (2) letters of recommendation from senior members of the association or profession who know the candidate well and can address their potential to fulfill the award criteria
IMPORTANT
Applications and all supporting documents, including letters of recommendation must be in English. Candidates should be able to converse in English. Potential Scholars must also have at least six (6) months of validity on their Passport past the January VMX dates. The NAVC will assist where possible for selected candidates to secure the appropriate visa for travel to the United States. It is strongly recommended that each candidate be fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19.

SELECTION CRITERIA
All candidates will be assessed against the following standards/criteria:
- Prior experience and involvement with veterinary continuing education programs in their home country or region
- Potential to use the VMX experience to foster improved veterinary continuing education in their home country and/or region
- Demonstrated leadership qualities
PLEASE NOTE
For consideration as the Michael J. Day AFSCAN scholar, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Applicants should be between 5–15 years after graduation from veterinary school
- Applicants must be an active member of their Association in one of the 10 AFSCAN countries: Angola, Burundi, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia
- Applicants should have the potential to develop, support and expand veterinary continuing education in their region
- Applicants should be fluent in the English language
- Applicants must be eligible for a visa to the USA
Each successful candidate will be contacted by an NAVC representative in early September 2025, to complete their registration and travel. All applicants will be notified of their status in September 2025.

SELECTED SCHOLARS RECEIVE

At VMX, the Scholars will attend an initial orientation and are invited to develop an individual personalized curriculum. This includes:
- Attendance at lectures of their choice
- Insights into the conference operations process
- A tour of the Expo Hall and information on Sales and Marketing
- Participation in a Hands‐on Workshop (as available)
- Attendance at select VMX functions as a VIP
