GHUSO is a soon-to-be launched NGO, which will operate as a convener, global knowledge-sharing platform and service provider, established to embed humane urbanism as the guiding principle for cities preparing for and recovering from extreme conditions such as disasters and conflicts.
GHUSO has resulted from extensive collaboration. Born out of the recovery effort in Hatay following the earthquake in 2023, founding initiator Mehmet Kalyoncu has convened experts from across the globe to understand how cities might more effectively respond and prepare for extreme conditions. GHUSO is established to enable further collaboration, knowledge sharing and support for the cities and communities that need it most.
Urban Comebacks: Focusing on urban comebacks in different parts of the world, the GHUSO event examines how cities recover and rebuild after facing disasters. Each city’s journey back to vibrancy presents unique challenges and opportunities, showcasing diverse rebuilding approaches. We aim to delve into these inspiring urban comeback stories, highlighting innovative and sustainable recovery strategies.
The presentations, each lasting 15-20 minutes, will be moderated by an expert on urban recovery from UN Habitat and will be followed by a dynamic Q&A session, encouraging active participation and exchange of ideas.
