Welcome to the Friends of Perry Lakes Citizen Science Initiative and thanks for being part of this exciting movement. 1. Water Level and Weather data: One day's data includes recording water levels in both lakes and associated weather data from the BOM. NB. As of May 2025, we are hoping that parts of this process will be automated in the near future.*

2. Water quality samples and testing: This will require taking water samples for analysis with Hanna HI9829 Multiparameter water test kits, supplied by the Town of Cambridge. Additional water samples to be captured during significant rainfall events (eg first of the season) which will be sent to labs for analysis.*

3. Bird Surveys: Attend per schedule or ad-hoc basis to record observations. There are 4 survey Points (transects), 2 around each lake and each survey takes approximately 20 minutes.*

4. Azolla and algal monitoring: Periodic observations of time and extent of growth. Azolla is an indicator of nutrient status and is an accelerant of plant growth because it fixes Nitrogen.*

5. Polyphagous Shot Hole Borer: This requires occasional inspection of certain types of trees around the park. While the Department of Primary Industry and Regional Development has placed traps around the park, with your help, additional observations may catch the pest earlier.*
