Dear Alison Marchant MP,
I am calling on you to support a complete ban on recreational duck shooting in Victoria.
Duck shooting is traumatising—for wildlife, for communities, and for people like me who care deeply about the wellbeing of both.
As a resident or visitor concerned about the cruelty and disruption caused by recreational duck shooting, I’m urging you, Alison Marchant MP, to take a stand. You represent Bellarine, and just minutes from your office lies Reedy Lake—an internationally significant wetland that becomes a scene of violence each duck shooting season.
I’ve witnessed the distress this brings to our community. The sound of gunfire shatters the peace, injured birds are left to suffer, and local residents are forced to live with the emotional and environmental consequences of this outdated practice.
Reedy Lake is meant to be a sanctuary—for birds, for biodiversity, and for the community. Instead, it becomes a site of violence and distress during the duck shooting season. This is not only an environmental concern but a serious community issue.
I believe it's time for change.
I respectfully ask that you:
Publicly support and advocate for a legislative ban on recreational duck shooting in Victoria - make 2025 the last ever duck shooting season.
Your support would send a powerful message that animal welfare, environmental protection, and community safety must take precedence over outdated recreational practices.
