• CUNY Sanctuary and Popular University Assembly (Fri May 16)

  • Date and time: Friday, May 16 - 3-6PM
Location: Judson Memorial Church. 55 Washington Square S, New York, NY 10012

Just a few days ago on May 8, 2025, CUNY “Public Safety” and NYPD officers attacked and brutalized CUNY community members who were protesting genocide and supporting Palestine liberation at the Hassan Ayyad Liberation Zone at Brooklyn College (named after the 14-year-old martyr from Gaza who died with an empty stomach following an Israeli airstrike on the Nuseirat refugee camp). They arrested at least 10 people and caused multiple injuries, with protestors being evacuated to the nearest emergency rooms. These attacks took place only two weeks after a similar raid on CUNY community members protesting genocide and supporting Palestine liberation at the Hilmi Al-Faqaawi Liberated Zone at CCNY.

With a renewed sense of urgency we must fight against policing and surveillance on our campuses and to build support systems for CUNY community members from mental health to migrant defense to reproductive justice, making CUNY a popular and sanctuary university that respects the right of students to demonstrate their rage at their public university’s support for genocide.

A liberatory university will serve the needs and defend the interests of the most oppressed and vulnerable among us — Palestinian, Arab, Muslim, Black, and Brown students and workers, undocumented, migrant, trans and queer community members, and the precarious and poorly paid students and workers. None of us are free until all of us are free.

Join us this friday! More details about the program coming soon
