The Metropolitan North Public Schools DanceSport Gala is open to all Year 5 students from public schools in the Metropolitan North Operational Directorate.  It is a culmination of a ballroom dance program that promotes respectful relationships. The first event in 2006 began with just 180 students and has now taught nearly 200,000 students to dance with respect, confidence and resilience. Whilst the medium is ballroom dancing, the core of DanceSport is in student wellbeing. We are proud that the program incorporates every aspect of the NSW Department of Education Wellbeing Framework, where all students connect, thrive, and succeed.

This fifteen-week program really does challenge us as students; it challenges us at every level. We come together once a week to learn the Cha Cha, Tango, Salsa, and Jive! And it does not stop there! We have gone from not wanting to have partners and giggling, and finding it difficult to focus on the dances, to an enthusiastic and committed attitude! Throw into the mix the fact that we’ve had to learn how to hold one another and move with one another gracefully, switching movements to differing tempos and beats. And then comes the final challenge to do all the above and SMILE while you are dancing! We began arriving at the centre at 3 pm, and we only had a few hours to orient ourselves to this evening’s program. It really is amazing!
