The "Whitey" Hoenow cancer fund was established in January 1984 by Suzanne Hoenow, Whitey's wife, Business Agent Loyal Simmons, and member Peter LaFave in memory of Stephen "Whitey" Hoenow.

The Fund is to assist active Local 277 members diagnosed with cancer with a one-time donation of $500.00. "Whitey" wanted to help active members by offsetting expenses for travel and lost wages and ease the hardship at a difficult time.
