  • Collaboration is an important element of the First Year of the Songwriting Workshop. Those who apply as composer and lyricist are often asked to focus on one or the other for the first year of the workshop.

    Please submit three lyrics you have written. This may be done as one PDF or as three individual PDFs.

    The songs should demonstrate variety: preferably one up-tempo song, one comedy song and one ballad.

    Please submit scores for three songs. (Piano/Vocal scores are preferred, but lead sheets are acceptable. If the songs have lyrics, make sure the lyrics are included.)

    Writers in the BMI Workshop must live near enough to New York City to be able to easily commute to lower Manhattan at least twice a week.

Auditions for the Workshop will be held during the week of Labor Day. Auditions are done live; it is not possible to audition remotely.
