MFBG Safety Policy and Guidelines
Volunteers/staff are expected to approach all activities in the safest possible manner. The following statements must be followed at MFBG.
Volunteers
• May not operate any of MFBG’s power equipment or drive MFBG vehicles.
• Are not to use pesticides and herbicides unless proper license has been obtained and is approved by MFBG
• Are not to use ladders unless at least one other person is around.
• Are to seek shelter at the first sight of lightening.
• Must wear safety gear as appropriate for certain jobs.
• Must obey all guidelines the MFBG staff assigns.
• May NEVER enter the Main House or Pack House UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
Volunteer Preparation
• Dress comfortably. If working outside, be prepared to get dirty and shoes must be
closed toe. Hats, gloves, sunscreen, and bug spray are recommended.
• Keep hydrated while working and rest often to avoid overexertion. If you feel faint,
sick, or nauseas at any time, please STOP WORKING and go indoors.
• Fire ants and other stinging insects are in the garden. If a volunteer has severe reactions to stings and/or bites the volunteer is required to make the MFBG staff aware they have a potential condition. The volunteer is required to have the necessary medication available to them when working in the garden.
Moore Farms Botanical Garden does not provide accident or medical insurance coverage for volunteers or visitors. In consideration for the volunteer opportunity, and as a condition of being a volunteer, the undersigned agrees to release MFBG and its staff from any claims, damages, and liability for any property loss or personal injury happening to the volunteer regardless of fault.
