• LSRS Letter of Intent Submission Portal

    The mission of the Lumbar Spine Research Society is to foster education and research in the field of diseases and treatment of the lumbar spine. We are currently soliciting letters of intent for the 2027 Research Grants and will be awarding up to $40,000 to fund innovative projects. Award(s) are available to qualified principal investigators in the field of lumbar spine surgery.
  • 2027 $10,000 LSRS KYOCERA RESIDENT FELLOW GRANT

    The LSRS is awarding a Resident or Fellow research grant up to $10,000. MD/DO Principal Investigator must be a resident or fellow at the time of the award.

    2027 $10,000 LSRS PREMIA SPINE YOUNG INVESTIGATOR GRANT

    The LSRS is awarding a Young Investigator research grant up to $10,000. MD/DO applicants must be within five years of completion of fellowship training at the time of the award; PhD applicants must be within five years of their post-doc training. 

    2027 $20,000 LSRS RESEARCH GRANT

    The LSRS is awarding a research grant of $20,000 to fund a future, innovative project. This award is available to Principle Investigators in the field of spine.

    The LSRS Research Committee will be reviewing letters of intent with the following criteria in mind: methodology, feasibility, and significance.

  • Guidelines for Letters of Intent:

    Letters of Intent must include each of the 10 sections as follows:
        1. Title of Project.
        2. Summary.
        3. Hypothesis Statement/Project Statement.
        4. Description of Problem/Background (not more than 200 words) as it relates to the lumbar spine.
        5. Purpose and Method of Research (not more than 400 words) for the project.
        6. Other sources of funding. List all other sources of funding for this project.
        7. Capabilities. 1-2 sentences listing resources and equipment available to complete the proposed project.
        8. Include full contact information for the participating institution.
        9. Budget. Budgets should include a specific request for funds and include permanent hard equipment, statistical analyses consumable equipment, and salaries to staff, travel, publication costs, and other direct expenses. Indirect costs, overhead, or institutional costs are not reimbursed by this grant. The budget should not include salaries for the principal investigator of other investigators although salaries for statisticians, lab technicians and other support personnel are appropriate. Budgets should not include costs for attendance and presentation at the LSRS Annual Meeting. 
        10. Closing Statement. The closing statement should include any long-term research plans related to the study (ie, plans to apply for NIH grants, etc.)

    Please limit Letters of Intent to 2 Pages in length.
