Petition: Rethink the Budget — Protect Our City, Keep Rates Fair
We, the undersigned, call on the City of Adelaide Council to pause and reconsider the proposed 2025–26 budget.The Council’s own regulator, ESCOSA, has warned the financial plan is “potentially unsustainable.” Projects like the Torrens Weir, Adelaide Bridge and Rundle UPark face a combined $99.7 million funding shortfall, and debt is forecast to rise to $220 million — all without a credible contingency plan.At the same time, ratepayers face sharp increases, a new $600 minimum rate, and underinvestment in the very assets that keep our city running.We call on the Council to: Align rates with CPI Maintain and renew city assets properly Support AEDA to grow our economy Genuinely consult on the $600 minimum rate Develop a clear plan to close the funding black holeWe support a vibrant, well-run city — but not at the cost of financial recklessness or unfair burden on ratepayers.
