    2025 J-1 Social Security Sign-up Days

We are now accepting appointment requests for Thursday, July 17th at the Ephraim Village Hall.

These remote sign-up events are made possible through a special arrangement with the Green Bay Social Security Administration office, in recognition of how challenging it can be for small business owners to transport Exchange Visitors (EVs) to Green Bay without disrupting operations.

This is not a guaranteed service—it is a professional courtesy extended by SSA, and it depends on our collective commitment to ensuring every student arrives for their appointment fully prepared.

✅ What We Expect From You

    • Follow the Preparation Checklist closely to ensure each student’s materials are complete and correct.
    • Make all required copies of original documents before arriving at your scheduled appointment.
    • Do not put our team or SSA in the position of turning students away due to missing documents or incomplete forms.

All of the information you need is clearly outlined in the Social Security Sign-up Day Preparation Checklist.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Do I need an appointment?
Yes. All sign-ups are by appointment only.

Is the customary waiting period waived?
Yes, the waiting period is waived for appointments made through this special event.

    What documents are required?
Host Employers must provide printed copies of all documents listed in the Sign-up Checklist. We are unable to make copies on-site due to limited printer capacity and connectivity.

    What’s the most common mistake?
After our June 10th event last year, over 50% of the Social Security cards were delayed or lost due to incorrect mailing addresses entered by students in the oSSNAP online application.

Please personally guide your EVs through this step to ensure they use your correct mailing address—not their housing or street address, unless the USPS regularly delivers mail to that location.

Alternative Option: Visit SSA in Green Bay
If you do not have access to a scanner/printer, please download this Green Bay Office Visit Checklist to accompany your students to the Green Bay SSA Office to apply in person, where they will help ensure you have everything you need for a successful application.

NOTE: The Sign-up Day Checklist for our remote event is different than the Office Visit Checklist.

As DDC’s role evolves to meet the changing needs of our community, we may be asked to provide evidence that demonstrates why having a subject matter expert for the BridgeUSA Summer Work Travel (SWT) program on our staff to support employers and exchange visitors is an appropriate use of room tax dollars. We believe it is — but it means much more coming from you. Do you see value in DDC coordinating Social Security Sign-up Days, hosting Employer Forums, or having a local subject matter expert available to answer your questions? Let us know below. If you prefer to reflect and respond later, feel free to email your thoughts to phil@doorcounty.com or news@doorcounty.com Thank You!
