    These forms are required for your chapter to compete in Invitational Fair events.

    2025 AK FFA Barn Takeover Schedule

    Please note that tickets will be provided for students competing in events and to the FFA advisor or 4-H leader that is bringing those students. Tickets will not be provided for additional family members, chaperones, etc.

    As these events are formatted and designed for 6-12th grade and match to National Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources standards for high school, please recognize that students outside of that age group may find some of the activities difficult. 

  • Chapter Information

  • Note - FFA members must take part in at least one of the activities occuring during the hours that the fair is open to the public each day that they attend. There will be a sing-up sheet shared with chapters to allow members to sign up for those different activities. 

  • Invitational Career Development Events

    These events will be part -workshop (to teach students how to do parts of the events), and part-competition. Preparation materials and competition handbooks for these events can be found at FFA.org. Each chapter may bring multiple teams to each of these events.
  • LDE Presentations - Students will have the opportuntiy to participate in Leadership Development speaking events.

    Prepared Public Speaking* - Competitors write and deliver a 6-8 minute speech on a current agriculture or natural resources-related topic. They reseach a topic of interest and present a creative, informative speech. The speech is judged on content, composition, and delivery. 

    Extemporaneous Speaking* - Competitors must think on their feet to create a pseech with limited prep time. Participants draw 3 from a list of 18 topics. Topic categories include agriculture, natural resources, education and current events. They will choose one and have 30 minutes to prepare a 4-6 minute speech.

    FFA Creed Speaking - FFA members in 7-9th grade memorize and present the National FFA Creed from memory and answer three questions related to it. 

     This event will occur from 2 pm- 5 pm Saturday August 16th, 2025. In the Livestock Barn at the Alaska State Fair. Competitors will have a microphone and will be on a stage. 

    *Depending on the number of registrants, speaking events may be broken out by agee group. 

  • Livestock Evaluation CDE - Students work in teams of up to four to rank breeding and market classes of beef, sheep, and swine and give oral reasons to back up their decisions. 

    Students participating in this CDE make accurate and logical observations of livestock and decide on desireable traits within both market and breeding stock. This is valuable knowledge that every livestock producer utilizes to make decisions. 

     This event will occur from 7 am- 11 am Saturday August 16th, 2025. In the Livestock Barn at the Alaska State Fair. 

  • Food Science CDE - This event requires students to have an in-depth understanding of food product develpment, food safety, and food presentation. 

    Students participating in this CDE participate in both individual and team (4 people) activites. Teams respond to a product development scenario, looking at new or redesiggned products to appeal to a market. They also complete a food safety and sanitation activity. Individuals may take a test, complete a problem-solving activity, and much more!

     This event will occur from  8 am- 11 am Sunday August 17th, 2025. In the Livestock Barn at the Alaska State Fair. 

  • Marketing Plan CDE - Participants develop practical marketing skills while creating and presentig a marketing plan for a local agribusiness.

    This event is for teams or 2-3 students who research and present a marketing plan for an agricultural product, supply, or service to a panel of judges. The plan should provide a reasonable and logical solution to a marketing problem. 

     This event will occur from 3 pm- 4 pm Sunday August 18th, 2024. In the Livestock Barn at the Alaska State Fair. Competitors will have a microphone and powerpoint screen to use for presentations.

  • Agricultural Issues Forum - Participants research the pros and cons of an agricultural topic and present their finding to a panel of judges. 

    This event is for teams of 3-7 students who research and present the topic they have researched. The presentations can be creative and utilize props. All participants must speak and be available to answer questiosn from the judges. 

     This event will occur from 12 pm- 2 pm Sunday August 18th, 2024. In the Livestock Barn at the Alaska State Fair. Competitors will have a microphone and powerpoint screen to use for presentations.

  • Dairy & Milk Quality Evaulation CDEs - 

    This will be workshops that combine two competitive events. One will focus on the evaluation of dairy cattle, the other on the evaluation of milk and dairy food products. These will be workshops and not a scored competitive event.  

     This event will occur from 8 am- 11 am Monday August 18th, 2025. In the Livestock Barn at the Alaska State Fair.
