    The City of Selma, Aabama enrollment for garbage exemption 2026 beings October 1, 2025 and will remain open until January 10, 2026. This program is designed to provide relief to citizens who own property, has a fixed income which is derived soley from the Social Security Administration. In result the fee for garbage services are waived for the entire year. 

    In March 2022 , the Ordinance for garbage exemptions have changed to only allow property owners to qualify for exemption. 

    To participate in the program, you must meet the new requirements as follows:

    • Garbage delinquencies with Martin Envirnomental or Ciy of Selma must be paid in full
    • Valid Form of Identifaction: Goverment issued 
    • Property Owners: Applicant name must be listed on the property
    • SOCIAL SECURITY MUST BE THE HOUSEHOLD SOLE SOURCE OF INCOME: Benefit letters must be dated between the dates Oct.1st - Jan.10th
    • Live within the City limits or police jurisdiction 

     

    If you are unable to provide all documentation all at once. Please do NOT submit your application until all required documents are provided. The application will only be accepted if its complete and all requirements are met.

    NOTE: It is a class "C" felony to falsely complete a written instrument required by a public office accorrding to Alabama Criminal code 13-1-9-3. Please advise the maximum fine for falsifying information is up to $500 plus additional fees may apply.

  • By authority of Chapter 13 Code of Ordinances of the City of Selma, the requirement of garbage exemption applications shall be approved by the appropriate City Officials, as indicated below:
