Pre-Season:

What to expect before competitions begin:
I understand that in order to have a successful season at GU Gold, I will attend Thunderbird Dance Camp on July 6-9th.
Fundraising: I understand that we have several fundraisers throughout the season and if I am not in attendance, I will be expected to purchase items out of pocket.
We typically host local dance camps, can drives and bake sales.
Our first fundraising event will be in June. We will host a local dance camp to help fundraise for Thunderbird. All dancers required to attend. Date TBA.
Thunderbird Dance Camp:

This premier dance camp is located in Portland, Oregon and is home to the best dancers in the entire state. Teams from Oregon, Alaska, Washington and California attend. This camp has been going on for over 40 years and it pulls choreographers and coaches from all across the US. Professional choreographers come to help and the coaching staff is some of the best in the country. This is the ideal space for brand new dancers to get more comfortable because there is a large group of new dancers who all learn the basics together. As a returning dancer, you will get to learn more advanced movements, tricks and choreo. You will have the opportunity to explore several different dance styles and techniques. We travel as a team and it is a season favorite! The cost is $350 BUT we always do several fundraisers so no dancer has to pay anything out of pocket. As long as you attend the fundraisers, this will be a free event for you. This camp is the single most important thing you can do this summer to help you this season. I cannot explain enough how the 4 days you spend here will SIGNIFICANTLY improve your skills and abilities. Please put these dates in your calendar.

We will have a Thunderbird meeting to go over all the details, TBA.
We will perform at 2-3 football halftimes this fall. If you are involved in another fall sport, this will not be *required*, but we would love for you to join.

State Season:

We will officially begin our Season in October. We travel to Pendleton in November, and in December we will host our annual Holiday Showcase. This is a requirement, as it is one of our big fundraisers. Traveling to DDCA competitions will begin in January.
I understand that Dancing with GU Gold is a time commitment. By joining the team, I agree to be at practices, performances and fundraisers, or I will be dismissed from the team.
To adequately prepare for our state season in January, there will be Dance practices in December during Christmas break. We have little to no access to the big gym during state season, so this time in the gym is IMPERATIVE to our season. We learn state choreo during this time. If you are gone you run the risk of being removed from routines AND may lose allotted solo parts. More than 3 missed practices may result in removal from the team entirely.
If I am dismissed from the team, or quit before OSAA state is over I agree to return all costumes, props, poms, dance shoes, shirts, state jackets, state shirts, blankets and any dance related item I have received this season OR I will be charged for each item.
During the DDCA local competitions there is a Solo Division Category. Anyone who would like to try out for a solo, please list here your theme, song and how many seconds you have choreographed. You will be assigned a coach to help polish your routine. You will be required to try out with Coach Romero before competing a solo.
Solo routines are only for dancers who have danced at LEAST 2 years, Signing up for a solo does not guarantee that you will have the ability to compete a solo at competitions. Solos are a privilege and can be revoked at any time.
