Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Gardens of Golden Gate Park. Amongst our three gardens, the San Francisco Botanical Garden is most suitable for group volunteering. With 55-acres, the San Francisco Botanical Garden has many projects available for your team to help maintain our living museum and create opportunities to connect people to plants, the planet, and each other! The expansiveness of our collection allows us to host horticultural group service projects for 5-80 participants. While volunteer service events typically support our horticulture team, we also host service groups for public programs such as our community music festival, Flower Piano, or Wreath-making. These types of events are suited for groups of 5-20 depending on the event and specific to the time of year.
Participant Fee Structure
- Corporate and private events: $35/person participant fee, effective July 1, 2024.
- Non-profit organizations: Sliding scale for non-profit group projects; determined by the non-profit organization.
- Youth, academic, and student groups: participant fees are waived for students currently actively enrolled.
The participant fee for volunteer projects is tax-deductible and helps cover the cost of materials, purchase and maintenance of tools, training, and project management.
Waivers and Minimum Age of Participants
Participants should be at least 14 years old. Participants who are 14 years old should have a parent or guardian in attendance with them. Participants who are 15-17 years old who are not accompanied by a parent or legal guardian must bring a completed Minor Consent Waiver to their assignment or provide it in advance by emailing volunteer@gggp.org. Volunteers 18 and over will complete a waiver on the morning of their service event. We are currently piloting a new online waiver process and will begin transitioning to online waivers this summer.
Completing this Form and Selecting Your Preferred Date and Time
This form includes three webpages, please complete the entire form to share your interest. This first page includes information regarding you and your organization, along with the options for events. Based on your event selection, you will be directed to a second page to select your preferred date and time, and the third page includes three final questions.
While we will do our best to accommodate your group on the date and at the time you request, we may have limited availability. Please note that it is advised that you select a date that is at least four weeks away to allow for scheduling and confirmation. While we may be able to accommodate smaller, repeat groups with shorter advance notice, it is harder to confirm a date within this four week window.
