
The School Leavers Scholarship supports students currently enrolled at a secondary school in Hawke's Bay or Tairāwhiti/Gisborne who are planning to study a bachelor's degree at EIT.
There are 10 School Leavers Scholarships available, each valued at $5,000 going towards study fees.
We're looking for students who make a positive contribution to their school, whānau and community, demonstrate leadership potential, and are committed to creating a positive future for themselves and those around them.
Applications close: Monday 31 August 2026 at 11.59pm.
Eligibility criteria:
- You must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
- Be currently enrolled at a secondary school in Hawke's Bay or Tairāwhiti.
- Meet the entry requirements for your chosen degree programme.
- Intend to study full-time at EIT from Semester One, 2027
What you need to provide
Please provide a character reference from a community group or organisation, such as:
- A sports club
- Church or faith group
- Community organisation
- Trades Academy
- Your current school
- Your reference should focus on your character, leadership, contribution to others and involvement in your community rather than your academic performance.
If your character reference is provided by someone from your school, they must be different from your school referee.
School referee
You will need to provide the contact details of a school referee.
After you submit your application, EIT will contact your referee and request:
- A reference in support of your application
- A summary of your NCEA results
If you are unsure who to nominate, please speak with your Year 13 Dean or Careers Advisor.
Important: Please ensure your referee is aware they will be contacted by EIT and that their reference must be submitted by Monday 31 August 2026.
How applications are assessed
All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by email on Monday 28 September 2026.
When assessing applications, preference will be given to students who demonstrate:
- A strong connection to their local community
- A commitment to making a positive contribution to others
- Clear future study and career aspirations
- Personal achievement and resilience
- Good character and leadership potential
- Academic achievement and financial need may also be considered.
Priority will be given to applicants intending to study a bachelor's degree and who have submitted their EIT enrolment by the scholarship closing date.
