6. Sterilisation and Microchip Policy
Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary does not have its own veterinary clinic; all vet work for our kittens is provided through trusted external veterinary partners. Before any kitten is cleared for adoption, they will have been microchipped, received their first F5 vaccination, and undergone a comprehensive veterinary health check.
Most kittens are sterilised prior to adoption. In cases where a kitten is too young, too small, or otherwise unable to be safely sterilised prior to adoption, Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary will cover the cost of sterilisation when performed at one of our partnered veterinary clinics. Some clinics prefer to sterilise kittens once males reach approximately 1.2 kg and females around 1.5 kg, while others may wait until kittens are closer to 6 months of age.
To avoid delaying adoptions and to allow new owners to enjoy their kittens while they are young, we offer two sterilisation options:
Option 1: Jacaranda will arrange sterilisation with one of our partnered veterinary clinics once the kitten reaches the appropriate age, and will cover the full cost of the procedure.
Option 2: The adopter may choose to use a veterinary clinic of their own preference. In this case, Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary will reimburse up to $200 of the cost once we have received both a certificate of sterilisation and a copy of a paid veterinary invoice.
Any additional costs or complications associated with the procedure — including pre-anaesthetic blood work, post-operative care, or infection — remain the responsibility of the adopter. Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary will not cover any costs arising from accidental pregnancies or complications resulting from delayed sterilisation.
Kittens must remain indoor-only until sterilisation has been completed. This ensures their safety and prevents any risk of unplanned litters.
The kitten will remain microchipped to Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary until proof of sterilisation has been received. Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary will not cover the cost of the microchip change of ownership, and adopters must arrange and pay for the transfer themselves.
We will not approve the change of ownership until written confirmation of sterilisation has been supplied (vet certificate or invoice).
Please email us at jacarandacatsanctuary@gmail.com for instructions on how to complete the change of ownership through the relevant microchip registry.
