Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary - Expression of Interest & Adoption Agreement Form
  • Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary - Expression of Interest & Adoption Agreement Form

  • Thank you for your interest in adopting a kitten through Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary!

At Jacaranda, we specialise in giving second chances to cats and kittens who are often overlooked — the stray, the scared, the spicy. While many of the adult cats who come into our care have faced uncertain or difficult pasts, most of our kittens have had the luxury of growing up in wonderful foster homes, where they have been socialised, loved, and introduced to home life from an early age. These foster homes play a vital role in shaping our kittens into confident, curious, and affectionate companions who are ready to find families of their own.

Our goal is to ensure that every kitten finds the best possible home suited to their individual personality, temperament, and needs — not just any home. Some kittens thrive in busy, active households, while others will do best in calmer, quieter environments. This Expression of Interest form helps us learn more about you, your household, and the type of kitten (or kittens!) that will best fit into your family and lifestyle.

By taking the time to answer each question honestly and thoroughly, you’re helping us make the most suitable match for both you and your potential new family member. Adopting a kitten is a lifelong commitment, and we want to ensure every adoption is a perfect fit — for both humans and felines alike.

Please note: Submission of this Expression of Interest form does not guarantee adoption or place a hold on any kitten. If your application is successful, we will contact you to discuss the next steps, including a meet and greet with your potential new companion.

  • 5. Care commitment & Cat Personality Fit

  • We kindly ask that all newly adopted kittens are initially set up in a small, safe space — such as a spare bedroom, bathroom, laundry, or office. This allows them time to decompress, adjust to new sights and smells, and build confidence in a calm, controlled environment before exploring the rest of the home.

Giving your kitten full access to the house too soon can be overwhelming, and may lead to stress-related behaviours such as hiding, fear-based reactions, swiping, or inappropriate toileting. Starting them off in a smaller space helps them feel secure, encourages positive associations with their new environment, and supports a smooth, low-stress transition into their forever home.

  • Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary strongly believes that cats should be kept indoors or contained to your property by a secure cat enclosure or cat-proof yard. This protects them from injury, disease, and environmental threats while also safeguarding native wildlife.

  • If your application progresses to the next stage, the following documentation will be required:

    • Evidence of landlord approval (if renting)

    • Previous rescue organisation

  • 8. Adoption Packages & Fees

  • At Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary, our adoption fees help cover essential veterinary care, supplies, and daily costs, allowing us to continue rescuing and rehoming cats and kittens in need.

Kittens under 6 months of age have an adoption fee starting at $500, which may vary depending on the individual kitten and their specific needs.

    Each kitten adoption package includes:

    • First F5 vaccination
    • Comprehensive veterinary health check
    • Flea and worming treatments
    • Microchip and microchip transfer costs
    • Sterilisation (desexing) at one of our partnered veterinary clinics

Adoption fees may vary to reflect veterinary costs, sponsorships, or other individual factors. Please confirm the final adoption fee with Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary at the time of adoption.

  • 9. Terms & Conditions

  • By submitting this Expression of Interest form, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to the following terms and conditions. These terms are designed to ensure the long-term welfare of the animals in our care and to protect both the adopter and Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary.

Please tick each box below to confirm that you have read and understood each point.

  • 4. Refunds & Returns

Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary is a not-for-profit rescue organisation with no government funding. All adoption fees go directly toward veterinary care, food, and daily costs for the animals in our care. These fees allow us to continue rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming cats and kittens in need.

Once an adoption payment has been made, the funds are immediately used to help other cats and kittens currently in care or awaiting rescue. For this reason, adoption fees are generally non-refundable.

We encourage all adopters to make thoughtful and informed decisions when applying to adopt. Welcoming a kitten into your home is a lifelong commitment, and we want every adoption to be made with care and understanding.

We recognise that sometimes life changes unexpectedly and circumstances beyond your control may affect your ability to continue caring for your adopted kitten. In such cases, you must contact Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary as soon as possible. Refunds are at the full discretion of the Sanctuary, and depending on the reason for return, a partial refund may be considered. However, refunds are not guaranteed, and no refund should be expected or assumed.

Refunds will not be considered for reasons including, but not limited to:

    • Undisclosed allergies within the household
    • The kitten or cat not getting along with existing pets
    • Behavioural concerns, including fear-based or timid behaviour during the normal decompression and adjustment period

All refund requests must be made in writing, and supporting evidence may be requested. All refund decisions are made at the sole discretion of Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary.

If you are unable to continue caring for your kitten, Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary will always accept the animal back into our care, regardless of the time elapsed since adoption.

  • 5. Medical Costs and Post Adoption Health

While every effort is made to ensure the health of the kittens prior to adoption, Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary does not guarantee that an animal is free from underlying medical conditions. The adopter accepts the kitten "as is" at the time of adoption.

Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary will not be held liable for any veterinary costs incurred by the adopter after 14 days post-adoption.

Within the first 14 days, we do not cover veterinary costs associated with minor symptoms such as diarrhoea or vomiting, as these can be common stress or diet-related adjustments following rehoming.

We will not cover veterinary expenses related to pregnancy, complications arising post sterilisation, or follow up vet checks, including rechecks after desexing.

  • 6. Sterilisation and Microchip Policy

Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary does not have its own veterinary clinic; all vet work for our kittens is provided through trusted external veterinary partners. Before any kitten is cleared for adoption, they will have been microchipped, received their first F5 vaccination, and undergone a comprehensive veterinary health check.

Most kittens are sterilised prior to adoption. In cases where a kitten is too young, too small, or otherwise unable to be safely sterilised prior to adoption, Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary will cover the cost of sterilisation when performed at one of our partnered veterinary clinics. Some clinics prefer to sterilise kittens once males reach approximately 1.2 kg and females around 1.5 kg, while others may wait until kittens are closer to 6 months of age.

To avoid delaying adoptions and to allow new owners to enjoy their kittens while they are young, we offer two sterilisation options:

Option 1: Jacaranda will arrange sterilisation with one of our partnered veterinary clinics once the kitten reaches the appropriate age, and will cover the full cost of the procedure.
Option 2: The adopter may choose to use a veterinary clinic of their own preference. In this case, Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary will reimburse up to $200 of the cost once we have received both a certificate of sterilisation and a copy of a paid veterinary invoice.

Any additional costs or complications associated with the procedure — including pre-anaesthetic blood work, post-operative care, or infection — remain the responsibility of the adopter. Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary will not cover any costs arising from accidental pregnancies or complications resulting from delayed sterilisation.

Kittens must remain indoor-only until sterilisation has been completed. This ensures their safety and prevents any risk of unplanned litters.

The kitten will remain microchipped to Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary until proof of sterilisation has been received. Jacaranda Cat Sanctuary will not cover the cost of the microchip change of ownership, and adopters must arrange and pay for the transfer themselves.

We will not approve the change of ownership until written confirmation of sterilisation has been supplied (vet certificate or invoice).

Please email us at jacarandacatsanctuary@gmail.com for instructions on how to complete the change of ownership through the relevant microchip registry.
