  • 36th Annual HPAA Members Exhibition at Scollay Square Gallery, Boston City Hall:

    Monday, August 4 -  Friday, October 24, 2025

    "The Boston City Hall Galleries showcase contemporary local artists and art organizations that reflect the diversity present in our city. The galleries aim to provide spaces that present memorable, ground-breaking, concept-driven exhibitions that engage with local communities and start conversations on social issues while inspiring a sense of belonging within Boston City Hall."

    Call to all Hyde Park Art Association (HPAA) or MAC member artists

    Exhibit Title: 36th Annual HPAA Members Exhibition, at Scollay Square Gallery, Boston City Hall

    Exhibit Dates: Monday, August 4th to Friday, October 24th  

    Awards Reception with Mayor Wu: Thursday September 4, 3 to 4:30pm

    Artists may submit one work for consideration. $25 Member's Entry fee.

    Work is not juried for entry into the exhibition; it is juried for awards.

     

    Awards: The City of Boston's Arts and Culture Department will jury the awards. Note these are different than previous years. 

    This year, we are requesting that artists submit a written description of their work to facilitate the assignment of objective awards. (see example in form below)

    - Best in Show

    - 1st, 2nd, 3rd place

    - 3 Juror's Choice (one per juror)

    - 1 Member's Choice (you will be given a voting ballot to fill, in person, at the Awards Reception)

     

    Location: Scollay Square Gallery, Boston City Hall
    Awards will be announced and presented at the reception at Boston City Hall.

     

    36th Annual HPAA Members Showcase at the Menino Arts Center, 26 Central Ave, Hyde Park 

    MAC Showcase Dates:  Monday, November 10 - Friday, January 9

    MAC Showcase Pick-up Dates: after Jan 9, 2026  TBD  

    This year we will again exhibit the artworks from this Scollay Square exhibit at the Menino Arts Center to allow the community an opportunity to view our members' work. Your work will travel directly to the MAC from Scollay. 

     

    36th Annual HPAA Members Exhibition in a Virtual 3D Gallery: This exhibition will also be presented in a virtual 3D gallery that you can view and walk through online. 

     

    Drop-off Dates at the Menino Arts Center, 26 Central Ave, Hyde Park, Ma:  

    Monday, July 28, 7pm - 9pm

    Tuesday, July 29, 8am – 10 am

    no late entries, if you are unable to drop-off,you must find someone to drop-off for you.  

     

    Take Down: TBD Saturday, October 25th at 10am    (Your work will be brought to the Menino Arts Center to hang in the Showcase Exhibition)                                                                                               

    Membership:

    HPAA Membership fee must be paid to participate in the exhibit.

    Artwork may or may not be for sale. If not for sale put down NFS.

    If a piece is sold, HPAA retains 30% of the sale price. Price your work accordingly. 

     

     

     

     

  •  SIZE, FRAME AND WIRE REQUIREMENTS: IF YOUR PIECES ARE NOT PROPERLY FRAMED OR WIRED YOU WILL BE ASKED TO REFRAME THEM OR REWIRE THEM AT DROPOFF.

    • All work must be properly framed and wired.
    • The Scollay hanging system requires the work be framed EXACTLY as indicated. Please redo previously wired work as required. 
    • The screw eyes with wire should be placed as close to the top of the frame as possible, at least within the top 1/8, (NOT 1/3) from the top of the frame.
    • The wire and 1.5" hanging hook must not extend above the top of the piece when hung. Take excess slack out of wire if needed. 
    • No sawtooth hangers.
    • Art without frames must not have side staples.
    • Frames must be sturdy and in good hanging condition.
    • Glass and mats must be clean and free of finger prints.
    • Unfortunately, artwork not properly wired and framed will not be accepted.
    • Work will be inspected at drop-off and you will need to fix if necessary. 

    2D SIZE REQUIREMENTS: Maximum size is Height 30" x Width 30"

    3D SIZE REQUIREMENTS: Work not to exceed Height 30" x Width 30" W x Depth 20"

    Image Upload Guidelines:

    The most important aspect of the Online 3D gallery is that the artwork is ONLY displayed by the jpgs submitted so the quality should be the best it can be.

    Photo of artwork can not include any mat or frame. It should be cropped to show the artwork squared up (no background or askew) with accurate color of original. Photos of sculpture must have a solid background. 

    1.    Save entries as a jpeg at 1200 pixels on the longest side.

    2.    Name your jpeg entries: First Last Name-Title.jpg 

           Example: John Brown-The Green Stripe.jpg

    3.   The Title on the jpg MUST match the Title of your Entry

          Example: The Green Stripe

    4.   Use Upper and Lower case as in the example. 

     

    Label/Notecard Guidelines: 

    The MAC will make the proper Gallery Labels, generated from the artwork information you provide below (no editing done by MAC staff/volunteers). 

    Your notecards are for identification only. 

    Secure a notecard with your name, email, phone number to the back of work. (It must not be able to fall off, tape securely)

    Removeable notecard with your name, and Title of Entry to the front of work. (not front of packaging).  Use tape that doesn't leave any residue. 

     

    Submission Deadline:  Wednesday, July 9, 11:59pm 

    Curator Deadline:

    (Entry forms and jpgs sent to Scollay Curator), Friday, July 11.

    Prepare a written STATEMENT of your artwork. A couple of sentences. 100 words max. 

    Example 1, Description of Artwork: A collage made from torn-up magazines, feathers, and plastic wrappers.

    STATEMENT: “This collage reflects the chaotic media landscape of modern society. Each torn image represents fragmented narratives we consume daily. The feathers reference freedom of speech, while the plastic wrappers point to consumerism’s interference in truth.”

    Example 2, Description of Photo: A black-and-white photo of a crumbling building with a child in the foreground.

    STATEMENT: “Taken in my hometown after a natural disaster, this photo captures both the destruction of physical space and the resilience of youth. The child in the foreground represents hope amid ruin.”

  • Liabilities and Responsibilities: The Menino Arts Center will not be responsible for loss or damage of any artwork, no matter what the cause. By submitting artwork to this exhibition, each artist agrees to this statement. Artwork is not insured by HPAA-MAC during the exhibition. Adequate insurance is the sole responsibility of the artist.

    Publicity: By entering this exhibition, the artist gives consent that the submitted images can be used by the Menino Arts Center for reproduction in print and on social media, for publicity and educational purposes, with artist credit given.
