    JA Career Adventures

    • Recommended for 6th grade
    • Five (5) 15-minute teacher-led lessons about self-reflection
    • Five (5) 15-minute teacher-led lessons about financial literacy
    • Sixteen (16) 30-minute teacher-led lessons about career exploration (one for each career cluster) - the number of lessons taught is at the teacher's discretion

    JA Career Conversations

    • Recommended for 6th-8th grade
    • May be teacher-led or student, self-guided
    • Sixty-four (64) 30-45 minute lessons (4 jobs in each career cluster) - the number of lessons taught and/or assigned is at the teacher's discretion
    • Each student receives a free JA Career Conversations workbook in which to take notes and "rate" the jobs they learn about - students do more Research and Reflection on their Top Two Jobs and complete the program with a Capstone Project about their Top Job. Students are given the criteria to include in their final project and teachers are given are rubric with which to evaluate the final projects.
    • I've spent the summer adding a ton 'o info to the JA Career Conversations, more information about each job, including suggested classes to take and clubs to join to learn more, recommended college majors, an interactive map of every college in the country with which to research specific colleges and majors at a high level, examples of college classes within each recommended major, examples and descriptions of entry level, mid level and senior level jobs and more games and activities related to each job

    JA Career Speaker Series

    • Recommended for 6th-12th grade
    • 30-45 minute presentations in which JA volunteers share their educational and career journey
    • Volunteers are trained to include the information the students need for their JA Career Conversations workbook
    • The frequency of volunteer presentations is once per month or every other month - we can also adapt the program in support of a full grade level or full school Career Day
    • These presentations can take place in a classroom with 20-30 students or in a larger space like an auditorium to an entire grade level or school. Read a teacher testimonial about the auditorium-style presentations.
  •

For each program you are registering for, please enter the approximate number for ALL participating students, not just the students in your class. For example, if you have 25 6th graders in your class, but all 180 6th graders are participating in the program, please enter 180 as the total student number.

We highly encourage teachers who sign up for the JA Career Speaker Series to also register for the JA Career Conversations.

Historically, JA Career Speaker Series was a lead program and JA Career Conversations was seen as a teacher-led backstop when a volunteer was not recruited or if a volunteer canceled at the last minute.

Moving forward, we recommend that teachers register for JA Career Conversations and see JA Career Speaker Series as an additional resource, if and when a volunteer is secured. We have enhanced the JA Career Conversations this summer, adding activities to each lesson and information about additional classes, college majors and career paths associated with each job.

Reminder: there is no cost for JA Career Conversations and each student receives a free workbook.

If you register for the JA Career Speaker Series, a JA representative will follow up to discuss frequency of volunteer presentations, dates, start and end times and presentation format (classroom or auditorium).
