POLITICAL PARTY, ELECTION, AND GENDER REPRESENTATION: A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF WOMEN’S PERFORMANCE IN 2019 ELECTIONS IN INDIA AND NIGERIA
  • POLITICAL PARTY, ELECTION, AND GENDER REPRESENTATION: A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF WOMEN’S PERFORMANCE IN 2019 ELECTIONS IN INDIA AND NIGERIA

  • Hello participants,

This questionnaire aims to gather your views as a public member, political party stakeholder, party member, or candidate (whether elected or unelected) in this country and state.

My research title is: Political Party, Election, and Gender Representation: A Comparative Study of Women’s Performance in 2019 Elections in India and Nigeria.

In this exercise, we will get an interpreter where necessary. Below are questionnaires for you to answer as honestly as possible.

I am also interested in hearing about your country's experiences, problems, or issues related to the 2019 general elections. Additionally, we aim to understand how the nomination and election of women to political parties, leadership positions, including grand members, are patterned or conducted alongside their male counterparts to ensure transparency.

    Ethical Assurance to Selected Participants

This is purely academic research to assess the degree to which political parties have demonstrated a commitment to (or deter) women's and men's representation in elections.

Due to the nature of the political research, your anonymity, as insisted upon, will be maintained. Therefore, the survey questionnaire will be conducted on a specialist website, as suggested during our initial telephone discussion, to facilitate a quick response.

Secondly, where applicable, a face-to-face focused group interview and a one-to-one telephone discussion will be conducted to ensure that all responses are adequately captured while maintaining complete anonymity. The same questions will be sent out for both countries in the following format for 50 respondents. 20 across political party members and electoral management bodies stakeholders, 10 for members of the public, 15 for female politicians and elected candidates, and 5 for male elected candidates in India and Nigeria.

The result of this academic work will undoubtedly be shared with government parastatals, helping them to develop and improve their electoral laws and policies, thereby increasing female representation.

In the long run, this goal will enhance a legitimate government free from ineptitude, engendering a balance between the two genders in the electoral process. We will send you all feedback from the field results if you wish.

The closing date for this survey is February 25, 2026.

    Sincerely yours,

    Researcher
