• The Reading Pattern Analysis Questionnaire

    Please read each question carefully. Your report will reflect the accuracy of your responses.
  • RECENT READING SESSION: Has the learner read some unfamiliar text to you recently?*
  • To make use of the Reading Pattern Analyser, please get the learner to read some unfamiliar text to you for 5-10 minutes, so that you can describe what you have seen.

  • MOTHER TONGUE: Is English a second language for the learner?*
  • SPEECH HISTORY: Do you know of any history of being late to talk for the learner?*
  • CURRENT SPEECH: Is the learner's spoken English currently below the average for their age?*
  • BLENDING: Have you noticed any difficulty blending sounds together to form words (for instance, if you say the four sounds /f/ /i/ /l/ /m/, will they struggle to put them together to say the word "film"?*
  • SPEECH COMPREHENSION: Have you noticed any difficulty for the learner in following simple instructions?*
  • AUDITORY RESPONSE: Does the learner sometimes say "What?" when asked a question?*
  • SHORT TERM MEMORY: Does the learner have difficulty remembering instructions (for instance, if you ask them to grab three things, they will only come back with only one or two of them)?*
  • WORKING MEMORY: Have you seen more difficulty reading longer words than short words, even when the word is quite regular?*
  • GENERAL MEMORY: Does the learner have any general difficulty retaining information?*
  • SKIPPING WORDS: Have you seen the learner skipping words in a sentence when reading?*
  • If you are unsure of the reading patterns for the learner, we recommend halting the questionnaire and doing some reading together, otherwise the process will have much less value.

  • SMALL TEXT DIFFICULTY: Have you noticed any greater difficulty or discomfort reading small text sizes or chapter book pages?*
  • FUNNY VISUAL EFFECTS: Has the learner ever talked about the text looking "funny" or "moving about" on the page?*
  • GUESSING: Have you seen the learner guessing short, common words?*
  • RUSHING: Have you seen the learner rushing through the text and making silly mistakes?*
  • COMPREHENSION: Has their reading comprehension seemed lower than you would expect for their general intelligence?*
  • SPELLING: Is their spelling persistently very poor in free writing, despite lots of practice with spelling lists?*
  • FLIPPING: Have you seen any flipping of b/d, was/saw, of/for and on/no?*
  • STRESS PATTERNS: Have you seen rising stress levels and anxiety in reading sessions?*
  • RISING RESISTANCE: Is the learner getting more resistant to reading practice?*
  • MELTDOWNS: Can reading sessions end in meltdowns, silence or tantrums?*

    Please note that we will store this information in order to provide the reading pattern analysis for you. We will also use it to give you any support and advice that you ask for in response to the analysis. In addition, the data we gather while supporting learners is used to keep improving the support we provide.

    However, the information will never be shared with anyone else and your data will be stored securely on a Google server, using their standard security systems on the basis of EU privacy law.
