Volunteer Expectations and Requirements
- All volunteers are expected to be reliable, consistent, and committed to providing excellent, friendly customer service.
- Volunteers work as a team and must approach their duties with a spirit of collaboration and cooperation.
- Volunteer roles frequently involve physical activity, including bending, stooping, reaching overhead, standing for extended periods, using a step stool, unpacking boxes, and pushing a heavy book cart.
- Volunteering is contingent upon adherence to the Library's policies and expectations. The Library and the Friends reserve the right to end a volunteer's service at any time at their discretion.
- All volunteers are required to complete a background check, including fingerprinting, through the City of Waco, and must sign a liability waiver before beginning any volunteer activities.

PLEASE NOTE: All our volunteer opportunities at the library are currently full. Please consider supporting the library by volunteering with our Friends. Every year, Friends volunteers donate thousands of hours to raise money to support various library projects and initiatives.

Inventory - using special equipment, scanning every barcode on material into a computer. Inventory is done once a year.
Computer Help - helping patrons on public computers, answering general questions
Materials Handling - Volunteers must pass a basic shelving test and take training before doing any job listed under Material Handling.

Shelving - putting books away in alphabetical and numerical order.Shelf-reading - checking the books on the shelves to ensure that they are in the proper order.Collection - collecting books that have been used in the library, checking them in, and reshelving them.Taking stickers off books and reshelving them.Cleaning - dusting shelves, reorganizing books, cleaning toys, etc.

The Friends of the Waco-McLennan County Library volunteers work in the sorting room at the back of the West Waco Library (5301 Bosque Blvd, Waco, TX 76710)

At the present time, the Friends do NOT have volunteer times available for Friday or Saturday. Hours of service are typically Monday-Thursdays between 10:00 and 2:00 pm. The need for volunteers is greatest on donation days (Tuesday and Thursday.)
