Overview
Over 2.5 days, you’ll get a safe, fun, and supportive introduction to whitewater paddling using packrafts — a stable and beginner-friendly way to explore moving water.
By the end of the weekend, you'll feel confident running Class II rapids in a packraft, connect with an amazing community of outdoor-loving folks, and finally understand what all the whitewater hype is about! You’ll also be set up perfectly to continue your packrafting journey — or even jump into kayaking next.

Meet at the YCKC Gear Bins – 25 Selkirk Street, Whitehorse
We’ll kick things off with a relaxed intro session covering gear basics and essential paddle strokes.
Saturday, June 14 & Sunday, June 15
We’ll join up with the rest of the Yukon Canoe & Kayak Club and travel to the Lower Tutshi River (about 30 minutes past Carcross). Over two days, you’ll build your skills and ease into Class II whitewater at your own pace.
Saturday Night: Riverside Cookout + Camping
Stick around for a relaxed evening with food, fireside hangs, and optional camping with the broader paddling crew. Camping is not required — but we definitely recommend it for the full community experience!
What you need
- Warm base layers & a fleece sweater (no cotton — synthetic or wool only!)
- Camping gear (tent, sleeping bag, kitchen stuff etc.)
- Food & snacks for both days (Saturday dinner is provided)
- A 2025/2026 YCKC Membership (*see below)
What we provide
- All paddling gear: wetsuit, river booties, helmet, PFD, paddle, and packraft
- Saturday night dinner: burgers, smokies & salad (veg and meat options)
- Two amazing instructors to guide you every step of the way
*A YCKC membership is required for insurance purposes. Membership runs through March 31, 2026 and gives you access to future YCKC trips and gear.
