• Petition To Require Reduced Noise and Community Consultation for Brooklyn Children’s Museum Rooftop Events

Every summer, the Children’s Museum rents out its rooftop to promoters who hold huge parties on Saturdays and Sundays, beginning in the middle of the afternoon and ending late at night.  The parties use massive amplifiers on an open rooftop, and the music is extremely loud.  Decibel readings from the street and the park show a volume higher than 80 decibels—a volume that can cause hearing loss in both adults and children.      The rooftop is located very close to the Brower Park playground, so children who play there in the afternoon are exposed to dangerously high volumes for hours.  It is unclear why these events are permitted to play such loud music in a residential neighborhood, right beside a children’s playground.     We’ve created a petition that requests a reduction in volume for events held on the Museum’s rooftop, which we plan to present to the Museum, the local precinct, and the Community Board.  We are not asking for the events to be shut down—only that they respect the rights of residents and the children who play nearby by playing music at an acceptable volume.     If you’d like some quiet enjoyment of your home, yard, beautiful Brower Park, or the playground, we’d be grateful if you could sign.
