As a Music for Life volunteer, you’re part of something special—representing a faith-based organisation that’s all about compassion, connection, and community. While you’re travelling and working as part of the team, we ask that you commit to the following values to help ensure a respectful, safe, and meaningful experience for everyone.

LIVING BY EXAMPLE - I will do my best to live in a way that reflects the values of a Christian lifestyle. I’m open to gentle accountability from my team and leaders, knowing that my words and actions influence those around me—especially the young people we meet.

REPRESENTING MUSIC FOR LIFE - I understand that during this trip, I’m representing Music for Life Institute—its mission, vision, and partnerships across Africa. I’ll do my part to reflect these with integrity and kindness.

RESPECTING LEADERSHIP - I’m happy to follow the guidance of our team leaders, trusting that they may have insight or information that’s not always visible to the whole team.

PRIORITISING SAFETY - I will avoid anything that could put me or the team at risk while in Africa.

CULTURAL RESPECT - I’ll approach the local culture with an open heart and mind—respecting customs, joining in shared activities, trying new foods, and avoiding any negative or judgmental remarks.

BEING MINDFUL IN BEHAVIOUR - Out of respect for the communities we’re visiting and the organisation we represent, I will avoid smoking, alcohol, illegal drugs, inappropriate displays of affection, revealing clothing, or any behaviour that might be seen as disrespectful or culturally insensitive.

TEAM SPIRIT - I’ll do my best to think of others and contribute positively to the team dynamic. I know that every person on the team matters, and I’ll listen respectfully and support my fellow volunteers.

PUNCTUALITY AND PRESENCE - I’ll be on time and present for scheduled activities and meetings.

POSITIVE ATTITUDE - I commit to showing up with a co-operative, open-minded, and cheerful attitude. I understand that this is a chance to grow and learn, and I’m willing to follow local customs even if they’re different from my own.

RESPECTFUL CONDUCT AND BOUNDARIES - Music for Life expects all team members to maintain respectful and appropriate behaviour at all times. Romantic or sexual advances—verbal, physical, or via messages—are not acceptable within the team environment, even between consenting adults. In Uganda, people are naturally warm and affectionate—friendly hugs are common and culturally appropriate. However, receiving a hug or demonstrating warmth does not invite further interaction. No physical contact beyond a friendly hug is acceptable. Please respect personal space and cultural differences. Any behaviour that makes others feel uncomfortable or unsafe may result in removal from the program. If you experience or witness inappropriate conduct, speak to a team leader. All reports will be taken seriously and handled with care.
