Across Aotearoa, more and more New Zealanders are choosing aesthetic treatments, from anti-wrinkle injections to dermal fillers and advanced skin therapies. These treatments are most often performed not by doctors, but by a wide range of qualified, experienced professionals including nurses, dentists, pharmacists, midwives, and paramedics.
In fact, these allied health professionals now deliver the majority of aesthetic treatments in New Zealand. And they do so safely with low complication rates, robust clinical training, and ongoing oversight through standing orders and prescribing partnerships.
At the Clinical Aesthetic Network of New Zealand (CANNZ), we believe the regulation of this growing field must reflect this reality. We support a governance model that is:
- Multidisciplinary, not dominated by one profession
- Proportionate to clinical risk, not unnecessarily restrictive
- Designed to protect patient safety, without limiting access or innovation
We also believe in supporting the professionals who provide your care - ensuring they have access to training, clear standards, and the ability to practise autonomously within their scope.
This short survey invites your voice as a patient, client, or member of the public. Your feedback will help us advocate for regulation that is fair, transparent, and grounded in how aesthetic care is actually delivered in New Zealand today.
It takes just 3–5 minutes, and your response is confidential.
Thank you for helping us put both safety and choice at the centre of aesthetic care.
