We are now accepting submissions for a vibrant and dynamic group exhibition that celebrates the medium of glass and the artists who are preserving, evolving, and redefining it.
Stained glass, a centuries-old art form that bridges history, architecture, and expression, is at risk of fading into obscurity. As renewed interest brings traditional techniques into the spotlight, contemporary artists are also pushing the boundaries of what glass can be—revitalizing the medium with innovation and relevance.
This exhibition aims to both honour the legacy of stained glass and amplify contemporary approaches to glass as a material. We are seeking submissions that:
Feature glass as a primary material
- Explore contemporary themes or treatments
- Highlight the versatility of glass in artistic works
- We also welcome and encourage works that incorporate non-glass elements or use glass in a less traditional way to showcase the unique and adaptable nature of glass in today’s artistic landscape.
By bringing attention to this endangered form, we hope to foster appreciation, spark dialogue, and inspire a new generation of creators working with this luminous and transformative material.
The Refracted exhibit is open to all Canadian and international artists working with glass as a primary material. A portion of selected works will be dedicated to showcasing Emerging Artists—defined as individuals who have not yet held a major solo exhibition, have earned less than $30,000 in art sales, and/or have been working with stained glass for fewer than five years.
Submissions can include 1-3 pieces of completed work.
All art sales are subject to 30% commission fees to the gallery.

Image Requirements
Submit up to 3 works for jurying. This call is open to all 2D and 3D mediums. Images should be cropped to feature art only or art in the frame as it will be displayed. Please do not include rendered backgrounds, mock-ups, art hanging on the wall.
For sculpture, 3D relief, collage and textiles work must be shown against as neutral a background as possible in order to effectively communicate the nature of the piece. You may include up to 3 angles of each piece. Ensure any background distraction is not included or eliminated as much as possible. Artists are welcome to submit outdoor sculptures in an outdoor context as long as the work is clearly visible.
Artists working in sculpture must provide and deliver their own display units (ie.plinths, platform, display cases, etc.). Artists are responsible for the transportation, installation to show venue in downtown Hamilton and any subsequent locations following the show.
Images must be provided in JPG format, 1000 pixels along the longest side to a maximum of 1MB in size. File to be named First name, Last name and Title, for example, PaulElia_FactoryTown.jpg.
