    PIONEER Award in Biostatistics

    The ENAR Dionne Price Early Career PIONEER Award in Biostatistics is established to honor the legacy of Dr. Dionne L. Price, a pioneering statistician, a steadfast champion and dedicated  member of ENAR and the first African American president of the American Statistical Association. This award recognizes early-career professionals, who have demonstrated exceptional innovation in mentoring, dedicated service to the biostatistics community, and significant impact in their field.


    Eligibility

    • <10 years after the last degree (no field/subject requirement). Eligibility may be extended for each child born or adopted for up to 12 months, documented illness, national service, or other dependent care.
    • Candidates must be a current ENAR member and demonstrate sustained engagement with ENAR either though (a) membership for at least 3 years total within the past 5 years or (b) active participation in ENAR activities (conferences, committees, working groups) over the past 3 years.

     

    Award Criteria

    Service to the broader scientific community related to statistics/biostatistics/data science. Examples include:

    • Within an organization or professional society.
    • Activities that demonstrate leadership.

    Mentoring, teaching, and elevating others. Examples include:

    • Outreach to new groups of critical thinkers.
    • Sustained relationships with mentees through education, job training, and/or support (could include early career colleagues, undergraduates/master’s students, students from non-statistics fields, or colleagues from non-statistics fields).
    • Teaching statistics in an accessible way.

    Creating blogs or other avenues for sharing statistics with new audiences. Innovative contributions could have societal impact. Examples include:

    • Projects demonstrating community engagement.
    • Establishments of collaborations/partnerships.
    • Development of new methods/software/tools that are widely used by diverse fields and are publicly available.

     

    Submission Requirements

    Applications should include:

    • Candidate CV.
    • Nomination letter addressing the award criteria (limited to 3 pages). Self-nominations are welcome.
    • A letter of support from a mentee (optional).

     

    Award Ceremony

    The award will be presented at the ENAR 2026 Spring Meeting Presidential Invited Address, Recognition and Awards Ceremony on Tuesday March 17, 2026, in Indianapolis. It is expected that the awardee will accept the award in person. There also will be a Spotlight Session featuring the ENAR awardees the afternoon of March 17. The winner will receive $1,000.

     

    Nominations should be submitted via this form by October 15, 2025. 

    Award notifications will be emailed in November 2025.
