LET'S RECLAIM CHIPPENDALE

VISION: I support the Friends of Chippendale's 'Reclaim Chippendale' vision to improve traffic management, reduce noise, enhance pedestrian safety and a more liveable neighbourhood (submitted to Council on 9th June 2025)
SUSTAINABLE: I support Friends of Chippendale's vision to create a more liveable neighbourhood through innovative water management, stormwater solutions, community composting facilities, insect hotels for biodiversity, and enhanced green beauty spaces that will improve our local environment and quality of life.
PUBLIC WORKS: I again object to D/2024/1165 for the amended DA of the Telstra Building on Broadway into the world's largest backpacker hostel. The application shows complete disregard for the amenity of our neighbourhood with no workable plan to offset its impact on neighbourhood and no community consultation. The amended DA goes nowhere to addressing the traffic control, pedestrian safety and noise concerns voiced by our community's 300+ objections. Moreover, ALL Development Contributions and works-in-kind for Traffic and Transport must be applied directly when a project is built in the surrounding area near the proposed development on Knox & Shepherd Streets.
CONTRIBUTIONS: Despite Chippendale contributing 3.3% of South Precinct development contributions (2014-2025), we've received only 0.5% of infrastructure spending - creating an $18 million shortfall. We're over-developed and under-resourced. Council must allocate these collected funds directly back to Chippendale for outstanding works and ensure future contributions are spent locally where developments occur. (Source: DCP 2015)
BUDGET: Where Council's draft 2025/26 budget does NOT allocate funds for public works in Chippendale, I ask the budget be amended to allocate at least $15 million for works in 2025/26 from funds Council already has in its building fund.
