The Skylands Future Scholars Initiative scholarships are awarded to exceptional individuals who exhibit academic excellence, leadership potential, community involvement, and a clear vision for their future. To maintain fairness and transparency, the selection process is guided by the following criteria:
1. Academic Achievement
A strong academic record with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Academic transcripts, honors, and awards will be reviewed to assess performance and consistency.
2. Leadership and Involvement
Evidence of leadership roles in school, community, or extracurricular activities.
Participation in student government, clubs, advocacy groups, or community initiatives is considered.
3. Community Service and Civic Engagement
Demonstrated commitment to volunteering and community improvement.
Applicants should show a history of service projects or civic involvement that aligns with the values of the scholarship.
4. Personal Statement or Essay
A well-written essay that highlights the applicant’s personal journey, goals, values, and the intended impact of their education.
Essays will be assessed on clarity, originality, relevance, and alignment with the scholarship mission.
5. Letters of Recommendation
Letters of recommendation are required from teachers, mentors, or community leaders.
Recommenders should be able to speak to the applicant’s academic ability, leadership skills, and character.
6. Financial Need (if applicable)
If the scholarship includes a financial need component, applicants may be required to submit supporting documentation.
Consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate financial barriers to pursuing higher education.
7. Executive Committee Review and Final Selection
All complete applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Executive Committee.
The Committee will assess each applicant based on the criteria listed above and make the final selection.
The Committee's decisions will be based on merit, eligibility, and alignment with the scholarship’s goals. All decisions are final.
