INITIATE starts with morning class (9:30-11am), followed by a deep-dive (11:30am-1:30pm) into Jiří’s choreographic, improvisational tools and his approach to movement with repertoire sharing.

Studio is open from 9am for warm-up. Participants may access the studio to explore their own practice daily after 1:30pm until 5pm.

INITIATE 1, 17-21 Nov, focuses on Jiří’s choreographic and improvisational tools, considering how the latest tools in contemporary dance can translate across diverse movement-based performance practices (not just dance, but dance theatre, physical theatre, circus, performance art etc.).

INITIATE 2, 24-28 Nov, focuses on Jiří’s movement approach, drawing from a lineage with Netherlands Dans Theatre and Crystal Pite, sharing his repertoire as a contemporary dance choreographer working in Europe, as well as his improvisational tools, catering to the needs of the room (e.g. fast-paced deep dive if there are mainly professional dancers, or an open approach to cater to a variety of artists). This is great exposure for artists interested to consider working in companies that create similar repertoire.

The two intensives are complementary so you can choose to do one or both weeks.
