Prospective volunteers must complete an interview with the director to determine their eligibility to serve as a mentor. Kinsella Angels Foundation does not discriminate based on race, ethnic background, gender, sexual orientation, or religious beliefs.
Eligibility Criteria
I. Age & Legal Requirements
- Must be at least 25 years old.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and minimum state-required liability insurance if using a vehicle for
transportation.
- Must pass a background check (required for assignments involving children or seniors).
II. Commitment & Training
- Must commit to at least one year of mentoring, with the hope of renewal each year. Consistency is key to making a lasting impact.
- Must attend a mandatory one-hour orientation and any additional training required by Kinsella Angels Foundation.
III. Personal Conduct & Safety
- Must be friendly, welcoming, and comfortable engaging with the public.
- Must follow all rules and guidelines set by Kinsella Angels Foundation.
- Must never provide false information to anyone affiliated with Kinsella Angels.
- Must not use illicit drugs, abuse alcohol, or misuse-controlled substances.
- Must not have been convicted of a felony unless at least two years have passed since final discharge from parole or probation, with demonstrated emotional and behavioral stability.
- Must not have a history of driving while intoxicated, a pattern of moving violations, a suspended license, or multiple at-fault accidents within the past seven years.
- Must not have been accused, arrested, charged, or convicted of child abuse, neglect, or molestation.
- Must not have been convicted of any crime involving children.
- Must not have a history of sexually exploitative behavior.
- Must not have been terminated from a paid or volunteer position due to misconduct involving a child.
- Volunteers working with children or seniors may be subject to random drug testing.
IV. Volunteer Responsibilities
- Must report any suspected neglect or abuse shared by a student to the Director of Operations within 24 hours (as mandated reporters).
- Must maintain a safe, supportive environment for children. Their well-being is our top priority.
- Must encourage students to develop self-reliance, meaningful peer relationships, and a healthy balance between independence and interdependence.
- Must demonstrate flexibility, open-mindedness, and respect for diverse backgrounds and values.
V. Agreement & Policies
- Must sign a general liability waiver and an expectations agreement before being assigned a role.
- Must adhere to agency policies outlined in this document, as well as the Waiver and Orientation Roles & Responsibilities.
- Kinsella Angels Foundation maintains a work environment free of discrimination, harassment, drugs, alcohol, and weapons.
