    2025 Scholarship Application Guidelines
  • The Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church (hereafter known as "the church") is committed to providing financial assistance to eligible students. Scholarships are awarded for a maximum of two years to assist students with their college/vocational education.

    To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

    HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES: (1st installment)

    • A current member of the church
    • Active participant in church ministries at least 2 years prior to high school graduation (i.e. choir, dance team, etc.)
    • Graduating 2025 high school senior 
    • Accepted and enrolled in a 2 or 4 year college/university/vocational school 
    • Parent/Guardian must be a consistent financial member of the church
    • Remain active in church upon enrolling in college. Students attending college outside the Atlanta area and out of state are expected to remain active in the church during spring breaks, Christmas and/or summer vacations when returning home.

    SECOND YEAR COLLEGE STUDENTS: (2nd installment)

    • A current member of the church
    • A recipient of scholarship in previous year and a 2nd year college student
    • Proof of second year registration (i.e. class schedule, dorm fees, etc.)
    • Proof of a grade point average of 2.5/4.0 or better during 1st year of college (two semesters)
    • Remained active in church during spring breaks, Christmas and/or summer vacations 
    • Parent/Guardian must be a consistent financial member of the church

    Application Requirements


     High School Graduates Must Provide the Following:

    1 A completed 2025 scholarship application written legibly in blue or black ink or typewritten 6/30/2025

    A type-written one page personal essay on one of the following topics:

    1. Why do you want to attend the college of your choice?

    2. Describe a person you admire and what is the impact he/she has made on your life?

    3 A reference from the High School Counselor or a Teacher 6/30/2025  
    4 A high school Senior Photo (drape/suit) 6/30/2025  
    5 A completed interview with Scholarship Committee Upon Notification  

     

    College Students Must Provide the Following:

    Important Notes/Reminders to all applicants:

    • Scholarships will be issued only once a year in August. 
    • Applicants whose parents are church members must make verifiable, regular financial contributions to the church.
    • Students attending a trade school, which will be completed within a year, will be entitled to 1/2 of the scholarship amount and for only one year. Students will not be entitled to a second installment if he/she decides to take up a second trade. 
    • All completed high school graduate scholarship applications must be received by June 30, 2025.
    • College students must submit all required documentation by June 30, 2025. 
    • Applications/required documents received after respective deadlines will not be considered. 
    • The Scholarship Committee will review applications and complete interviews of high school applicants by May. 
    • Scholarship checks will be made payable to the institution on behalf of the student.

    Application Deadline

    All scholarship application/required documents must be received in the church office no later than June 30, 2025. They may be given to a member of the scholarship committee, faxed to the church office at 404.688.0538, or emailed to scholarship@mtpleasantatl.org.

In the event that I do not enter school by the date specified on the acceptance letter, I forfeit my scholarship. I further acknowledge that I have read and understand the Eligibility Requirements and Statement of Limitations for the Rev. O. L. Blackshear, Sr. Scholarship Program.
