ALBA Database of scientists with disabilities

This database is intended to enhance the representation, opportunities and influence of neuroscientists with disabilities by making it easier to contact and communicate with you.

We define ‘disability’ as the interaction between a researcher’s physical, sensory, cognitive, developmental, mental health and/or other conditions or differences, and the contextual and environmental factors within which they work and live, which together result in limitations to their functioning and participation.’ This choice of definition aims for consistency, clarity and inclusivity, and is underpinned by the 'social model' approach, which focuses on how people can be 'dis-abled' by barriers in their environment. We would gratefully welcome participation from anyone who feels included in the above definition, whilst acknowledging that you may not personally self-identify with this language.

Once signed up, you may from time to time be contacted by ALBA or our approved partners to request, for example, further information, advice, and/or participation in events. Amongst many possibilities we envisage that, for example, conference organisers may wish to use the database to promote diversity and inclusion in their events, or funding bodies may seek advice on strategies for including researchers with disabilities. We at ALBA may also ask for feedback on disability-related actions, and/or invite you to participate in those actions. However, you are under absolutely no obligation to consent to any of these activities.

If you consent to providing us with your data, we will store it securely according to ALBA terms of use, and will share it with ALBA approved partners only upon reasonable request and human approval. You can, of course, contact us at disability@alba.network to request the removal of your data from the database at any time.
