This information is intended to provide a general overview as to how we will work together in the process of spiritual direction.
OUR RELATIONSHIP: You have asked to meet with me as your spiritual director to help you explore more deeply your own spiritual life and its relation to the Holy One and others in your life. In response to your request, I am privileged to serve as your companion on this sacred journey. When we meet, there will always be three [3] of us in the space – you, the Holy Spirit and me. As your companion, my role is to facilitate the relationship between you and the God of your understanding – and so the focus of our work will always be on you and this loving creative force. There may be times when psychological, relational and/or financial issues may surface. I am not a psychologist, psychiatrist or financial advisor and will not provide, or attempt to provide, advice or counsel on these matters. I may, however, suggest you speak with a professional in any of those fields to appropriately address the issues that may arise in those areas.
CONFIDENTIALITY: Our conversations will be held in strictest confidence. I abide by the ethical code of Spiritual Director’s International. On occasion, I may confidentially discuss aspects of our meeting with my supervisor, who is trained specifically to supervise spiritual directors. Your name and identity would remain anonymous. Otherwise, I will not reveal the content of our discussions unless I am required to do so by law or court order. You are not bound by confidentiality and may share whatever you choose to about our conversations with anyone.
MEETINGS: In the spirit of respect, we agree to begin and end our meetings on time. If you wish to cancel or change your meeting time, I ask that you provide 24 hours-notice, via telephone or e-mail, prior to our scheduled meeting. There is a one-time grace period for missing a session. After that, I respectfully ask that you pay your session fee. If you would like to adjust our meeting arrangements [make them less or more frequent; extend time for meeting] we will discuss our ability to do so. If you need to speak with me outside of our regular meeting times, you may contact me and I will attempt to reach you as soon as possible.
FEE: Spiritual Direction is both a ministry and a professional service. My fee is is on a sliding scale ($60 - $50 - $40) per hour long session. Please let me know what will work best in your budget. A person’s ability to pay will not be an obstacle to their opportunity to participate in this ministry but I appreciate the value you give for my time and expertise.
