Thank you for your interest in leading as part of ArtsEd Washington!
    • Section 1: Introduction to ArtsEd Washington
    • ArtsEd Washington (AEW) is a nonprofit organization that advocates for quality and equitable arts education throughout Washington State. Founded in 1983 as the Washington Alliance for Arts Education, we have a rich history of collaborating with arts education leaders, and leading arts education advocacy efforts.

We envision an educational system in Washington State where every student experiences a high-quality arts education regardless of their background or circumstances.

      Commitment to Equity:
At ArtsEd Washington, we believe that diversity enriches our organization and makes us more effective in achieving our mission of providing equitable arts education to students throughout Washington State.

We are committed to equal opportunity employment and inclusion regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, citizenship or immigration status, marital status, families with children (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), sex, sexual orientation, gender, age, status as a protected veteran, honorably discharged veteran or military status, status as an individual with the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical disability or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal by a person with disabilities or other protected characteristics.

We strongly encourage applications from people in underrepresented regions, backgrounds, genders, and communities.

Mission-Alignment: Please read through AEW's Mission, Values, and programming to confirm that your values are aligned before applying.

    • Section 2: Community Ambassador Basics
    • Leading with ArtsEd Washington: As a grassroots organization, one of AEW's most common leadership role is Community-based Ambassadors. To encourage representation throughout Washington, this role is based on remote and/or hybrid opportunities.

Community-based Ambassadors meet monthly other ambassadors, receive timely updates about statewide policies, and help us identify trends and priorities to guide our programming and inform decision-makers across the state! Ambassadors serve for approximately one year at a time, and are welcome to continue in future roles as well.

Ambassadors are often connected with local arts, education, or equity work such as:
      -School employee or retiree
-College student studying arts and/or education
-Parent/guardian of a student who loves the arts
-Professional who partners with local school programs

Ambassadors serve as a liaison between AEW and their local artistic and/or education communities by:
-Sharing about their community with other Ambassadors
-Learning how to advocate for quality arts education in their schools
      -Expanding their local network
-Participating 1 virtual ambassador meeting per month
-Establishing a deeper connection with ArtsEd Washington

There is a small travel honorarium available for Ambassadors who want to represent AEW or connect with other Ambassadors at a mission-related event. This is not a requirement of the role, just a perk we hope will help strengthen cross-community relationships.

      A few examples include:
*Regional events advertised on AEW's Community Calendar
      *August–WA-ACTE Conference, Spokane
      *August–Migrant Education Program Conference, Yakima
      *October– Arts4All, Bellingham
      *November–WAEA Conference, Seattle
      *November–WSSDA Conference, Seattle
      *February–Arts & Heritage events, Olympia
      *February–WMEA Conference, Yakima
      *March–WA Thespians Festival, Seattle

Timeline: The first online meeting for this position will take place in mid-August, exact date TBA. Applications will be reviewed in early August, with the goal that new Ambassadors will be onboarded before the August meeting. Ambassadors will meet monthly from August through November, and from January through May.
