Anyone who wishes to be considered for main stage roles (principal, comprimario, or cover), solo opportunities (Operatinis, educational & community engagement performances, or ticketed recitals/concerts), and new chorus or ensemble opportunities may request an in-person audition or submit a video audition for consideration. Please note that we give preference to Boise, Idaho-based, and regional singers within driving distance to the Treasure Valley for cover, ensemble, chorus, educational, and community engagement opportunities to meet the needs of our community and uphold our committment to fostering and developing regional singing artists. 

In-person informative auditions are usually held in May or June each year, although an in-person audition may be requested at any time and will be scheduled according to the Directors' availability. Managed and unmanaged singing artists are invited to apply. Applications may also be updated after submission by following the application link in the confirmation email you receive upon submission.

Contact auditions@operaidaho.org if you have any questions, need assistance, or if you have not heard from a staff member to schedule an in-person audition within 2 weeks of your submission. Please be aware that the "auditions" email is not always monitored on a daily basis and it may take up to 1-2 weeks to receive a response.

To request an audition date outside of the annual informal audition dates in May or June, please submit at least 2 dates or timeframes in which you would be able to travel to Boise to presen an in-person / live audition. Please be as specific as possible.

Example submission answers: 

• Monday, July 21 between 3-6pm
• Any day or time between July 21 and July 25
• Any weekday after 4pm and weekend from 10am - 3pm between July 21 and July 25

Please allow for at least 2 weeks between the time of your request and your preferred audition date whenever possible. Should you happen to be passing through Boise, it is sometimes possible for the General Director to hear auditions on short-notice. Please be sure to share your travel information and any/all dates you will be in Boise in the OTHER NOTES section.

If you do not hear from one of our staff within 1-2 week to schedule your audition, please email auditions@operaidaho.org.

Please list the title, work, and composer of the pieces you wish to present at your audition in the next field. You may return to this application to change your selections at any time before your audition by clicking the link in the confirmation email you receive after submission.

To ensure a positive audition experience for both you and your pianist, please email PDFs of any non-standard or extremely difficult repertoire at least 48 hours in advance of your audition to Betsi@operaidaho.org.

You may also upload PDF copies of your repertoire with your headshot and resume. You must also bring hard copies of all pieces for the pianist to your in-person audition. Your music must be two-sided, hole-punched, bound in a 3-ring binder or similar, NO SHEET PROTECTORS.

Requirements for Video Submission:

You may submit 2 - 4 video links for consideration according to the repertoire requirements for the opportunities you are interested in.

Recordings should be recent, no more than 6 - 12 months old, and unedited whenever possible. Operatic repertoire should be performed in its entirety. Audition cuts are acceptable for Musical Theatre and contemporary repertoire.

All links must be publicly accessible and viewable. (No password-protected videos.) You can double check this by pasting your link into an incognito browser to ensure it is viewable.

Recordings with piano accompaniment are preferred. Please avoid production or orchestral recordings unless they are high quality, professional recordings. You and your face should be clearly visible and focused.
