At VYC, one of the key ways we foster leadership is through our Mentorship Program. Singers from the KIDS level and up are eligible to participate, taking on a variety of meaningful roles within the organization.
Mentors attend weekly rehearsals and all concerts/events of the choir they mentor and they support younger singers by role-modeling vocal technique and focused rehearsal behaviour, acting as musical anchors within their section by singing with confidence and accuracy, and helping to foster a positive and inclusive community within the choir. Our older mentors often lead sectionals and warm-ups, help teach staging and choreography, help supervise and monitor behaviour, and facilitate games and activities. The exact scope of the mentor role is decided in collaboration between the conductor and the mentor and can be larger or smaller depending on the abilities of the mentor and the needs of the choir. Our mentors play a vital role in the success of our ensembles and in nurturing the next generation of confident, capable leaders.
Please note: this form needs to be filled out BY THE SINGER who will be the mentor, rather than by a parent. Younger prospective mentors may of course need parental help to fill out the form. We will send out the mentorship form separately again so if your child is interested in being a mentor but can't fill out the form at the time you are doing this registration please simply indicate that below.
