We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our coaching team for the upcoming junior representative season. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the development of young athletes within a well-respected program.

Selection Criteria: Applicants will be assessed based on demonstrated and verified attributes including, but not limited to:

• Technical knowledge
• Coach accreditation level
• Representative coaching experience
• Experience in the Braves Junior Representative Program

*Please note that while we value all applications, final coaching placements will be offered in the best interest of the Bendigo Braves junior program.

 

Selection Panel: Expressions of Interest will be reviewed by a selection panel consisting of the Director of Coaching (DOCAD), a Bendigo Basketball Association committee member (BBA Board Member), and a Junior Braves Committee member (JBC board member) who will formulate recommendations which will be finalised by the DOCAD and the selection panel before final assessment and ratification by the BBA Board.

 

Expectations of Assistant Coaches: Upon appointment, Assistant coaches will be required to:

• Have an up-to-date Working with Children Check.
• Hold First Aid and CPR certification (if you do not possess either of these qualifications, the BBA will provide an opportunity to complete the accredited courses).
• Complete the Play by the Rules course online (Child Protection short course).
• Complete Member Protection Form and Coaches Code of Conduct.
• VJBL Coaches commit to: Two training sessions per week (one midweek, one weekend) plus Friday night games and scheduled tournaments.
• Non-VJBL Coaches commit to one weekend training session, one domestic game, and scheduled tournaments.
• Commit to implementing to some degree any Braves Style of Play philosophy/tools.
• Commit to completing two Braves player evaluations for every player in your team during the 2025/26 season
• Attend DOCAD-organised coach education/development activities during the 2025/26 season.
• Possess a Club Coaching Course (formerly Level 1) or the Community Coaching Course (formerly Level 0) or demonstrate a willingness to attain the qualification.
• Adhere to Bendigo Basketball Association (BBA) and Basketball Victoria Country (BVC) code of conduct.
• Attend Try Out Selection (Exact date TBA).
• Agree to attend Coach’s Meetings / Clinics.
• Watch Domestic matches for your designated age group before and during selections.
• Complete a Basketball Victoria (BV) statutory declaration.

Application Process: All those seeking a coaching position must apply by the nominated date, in the prescribed manner and format. All current Assistant coaches must re-apply to continue in a position for the 2025/26 season. As far as reasonably practicable, all Coaching selections and appointments will be free of conflict of interest.

All applicants will be interviewed. Interviews will be strictly 15 to 20 minutes in duration. When submitting your Expression of Interest, you must upload the following documents:

1. A copy of your coach’s resume outlining your relevant coaching experience and qualifications.
2. Provide Two References to contact (If available)
3. A copy of your Working with Children Check (WWCC) ID.
4. Copies of your coach accreditation certificates. (If available)
5. A copy of your current First Aid certificate. (If available)

Declare any conflict of interest or perceived conflict of interest in your application. Failure to do so can result in non-selection or removal from coaching positions.
