Bard Early College New Orleans (BECNO) distributes textbooks semesterly for courses that require specific reading. They are lent out within the first few weeks of class and returned the last week of class.
Contrary to a traditional college setting, BECNO lends coursebooks to students to stay aligned with our mission of providing a tuition-free, liberal arts education. In mind of this, textbooks are a shared resource throughout campus, and we expect students to receive, care for, and return textbooks in a mindful manner. BECNO has wonderful opportunities for student programming when we don't have to spend budgetary funds replacing textbooks more regularly than general wear and tear requires.
When books are signed out by a student, BECNO records the book number. This exact book is that which should be returned by the respective student at the end of the semester. Students can expect an invoice of textbook rentals at the end of the semester if books are not returned in a timely manner.
Loss or Damage
If textbooks are damaged, lost, or stolen: within 48 business hours email Ms. Amanda aburau@bec.bard.edu with a brief description of the events that occurred with your parent/guardian included (copied on the email). The steps following the initial report will be handled on a case-by-case basis. It will typically consist of a conference with you and parent/guardian to discuss what actions will be taken and an assessment of the loss or damages. If a device is not returned by the appropriate time and there is no effort to communicate, you and your family must take full financial responsibility. A list of books by price is provided here.
If payment is not made in full by the end of the applicable semester, Bard has the discretion to place a hold on your transcript, BECNO course registration, and Bard Early College events, such as commencement, until the payment is received.
