     Team Canada Dance is thrilled to welcome Mitja Popovski, the acclaimed choreographer for the Slovenia National Team, South African National Team, and the Chairperson for the IDO Modern & Contemporary Dance
    Committee for the past 10 years.

    A highly accomplished and versatile choreographer, Mitja excels in a vast range of dance styles, including modern, classic jazz, lyrical, Broadway musical, tap, hip hop, and comedy. His choreography blends funk, strength, and individual interpretation, with a strong emphasis on performance quality. Known for his energetic and demanding work, he fosters pure dedication from dancers, never allowing "marking" in his studio, Kazina Dance Company in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

  • If you have been to an IDO Modern/Contemporary or Show Dance World Championship with us then you have most likely seen and admired his work!  

    Just to name a few of his accomplishments, Mitja was named the 2008 International Dance Organization (IDO) Choreographer of the year, he is a member of the IDO Hall of Fame, awarded Best Slovenian Choreographer for the past 15 years, won multiple World Championship Titles as a choreographer and dancer in modern, show, jazz, and tap formations, groups, duos, and solos with. Kazina Dance Company, numerous World Titles as choreographer for the South African National Dance Team (2011-2024), an international judge for IDO, a member of the modern, jazz, show dance,
    and tap committees, and Chairperson of the Slovenian IDO Judges Committee. Mitja also has an extensive choreography and teaching experience in stage/theatrical productions, television/music industry, casino/entertainment shows, as well aa international teaching. and masterclasses, choreographing in Croatia, Finland, Serbia, Russia, Czechia, South Africa, Germany, Italy, Belarus, Estonia, and now, Canada! He is a Master Teacher at the University of Sports, Ljubljana, and the Slovenian Dance Association for the past 15 years.

  • Team Canada Dance is also excited to welcome back former Team Canada Dance World Champion dancer and gold medal choreographer, Kim O'Neill for our 2026 Jazz.

    Kim is an established dancer, teacher, choreographer, and Graduate from the University of Western Ontario. She is trained extensively in all dance disciplines, having been trained under the direction of Matthew Clark.  She is the proud owner of the O’Neill Academy of Dance, in her home town of London, Ontario since 2010.

  • With 20 years of professional work under her belt, Kim has become a well- established dancer and performer.  Kim began her professional career as a featured dancer for the Helix Dance Project, under the direction of Linda Garneau.  Kim has performed at numerous corporate industrial shows, theatre credits, and can be seen in some major motion pictures and television.   Kim has had the honour of assisting many re-known choreographers including Matthew Clark, Gino Berti, Jeff Dimitriou, Trudy Moffatt, and Sean Cheeseman. Kim is currently a faculty member at Metro Movement Dance Studio in Toronto (open professional studio), where she teaches classes in Jazz, Jazz Tech, and Theatre Jazz.  She has over 15 years of adjudication experience across Canada and the United States.   Kim continues to teach master classes at various conventions across Canada (both student & teacher’s conventions), having more than 15 years of convention teaching experience under her belt.  She continues to teach / assist many professional auditions within the dance industry, as well as, be on various casting panels.  She has 20 years of experience teaching and training dancers of all ages and in many dance disciplines.  One of the highlights of Kim’s career is being able to work with young dancers, week after week, and seeing their continued growth and development.  Kim continues to be an active professional within the dance industry / community.

  • In addition, we have the newly elected Chairperson of Jazz for the International Dance Organization, Breanna Willis!  We are proud to have our Team Canada choreographer and judge as the new chairperson, and the knowledge she brings to the role.

    The multi-talented Breanna Willis is returning to Team Canada Dance, this time as choreographer for Jazz for our dancers attending the IDO World Dance Championships in Slovenia this year.  Previously, Breanna has been Team Canada's choreographer for Streetdance Show, Tap, and Jazz, in addition to being a veteran IDO Adjudicator!

  • With over 20 years of experience as a professional dancer, dance educator, international adjudicator and choreographer, holding a BPE with a major in Dance from the Universities of Alberta and Otago (New Zealand), Breanna Willis is thrilled to bring her love, passion, and dedication to dance into her new role as tour director of the Canadian Dance Awards. Originally from Sherwood Park, Alberta, Breanna’s passion for dance and travel has led her to perform and choreograph in film, TV, and on stages across Canada and the world, including The Stratford Festival (Guthrie Award Recipient), Canadian Opera Company, Vancouver Opera, and Drayton Entertainment, to name just a few. Her love of teaching and choreography began at a young age, and in 1997, she began her teaching career.

    Over the years, she has honed her skills as a dance educator, working with all ages and skill levels, and is committed to the development and growth of every performer with whom she works. She is an award-winning choreographer both nationally and internationally, working with dancers from across Canada, the US, Germany, South Africa, Slovenia, Russia, Australia and New Zealand. She has traveled and danced her way to nearly 60 countries, and Breanna now calls Stratford, Ontario home. In 2018 she founded the Stratford Dance Collective, a drop-in dance and training program for aspiring and professional dancers. In 2003, Breanna began adjudicating dance festivals and competitions across Canada. In 2009 she obtained her license with The International Dance Organization and currently represents Canada as a judge and choreographer for their events in Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, South Africa, and Mexico. Her choreography has brought home 5 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals in jazz, tap, and street dance show. Breanna is also now the Tour Director of the Canadian Dance Awards with the goal to foster growth and creating opportunities for dancers to realize their potential and deepen their connection to their art.

    Breanna hopes to always impart her knowledge, love, and passion for dance to others.

  • RELEASE OF LIABILITY In consideration of the permission granted by Team Canada Dance and the used studio usage for auditions, rehearsals and its agents (including the Director, choreographers, chaperones, studio owners, CNDT, CNDC, CDO, IDO, and Team Canada Dance Hip Hop, Streetdance, Tap, Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Showdance, Acro, Commonwealth teams, World Dance Teams, Team Canada Dance and/or Team Canada Dance Org) for allowing the registered dancers and parent(s), or guardian(s) or participants agree with the follows A) That neither I/We nor the Participant shall hold Team Canada Dance Org. and their directors or choreographers liable for any loss, damage, expense, injury, or death whatsoever, suffered or incurred by the Participant arising out of, or in any way attributable to the activities inherent in Team Canada Dance participation and the IDO World Championships, or the use of the Lands or any vehicle before, studio, rehearsals, during or after his or her participation in Team Canada Dance activities. B) To be involved in Team Canada Dance auditions and rehearsals and travel C) That Team Canada Dance, Canadian National Dance Championships, Dance Studio, the rehearsal studios or their owners, choreographers and staff, Team Canada National Director Bonnie Dyer, Assistant Directors Alison Sharp and Melissa Dyer, International Dance Organization, Competition Organizers, or any of the Team Canada Dance Choreographers of which are not liable for any accidents or injuries or cancellations of any events in connection with World Dance Championships. D) I/We understand that there is an element of risk involved in some activities engaged in by Team Canada Dance, as is the transportation to and from these activities. I/We accept these risks on behalf of the Participant. E) Team Canada Dance has a right to expect the Participant to abide by the rules set out by Team Canada Dance for involvement in the program, and if the Participant does not abide by these rules, he or she may be sent home at my/our expense and without any reimbursement of program fees paid by the Participant. This includes behaviour and social media rules.

  • MEDIA WAIVER/RELEASE As the legal parent or guardian, or dancer over the age of majority, I agree to allow and give permission to the Team Canada Dance and affiliated competitions to use any photos or video footage of my child/children or myself (i.e., auditions, rehearsals, competitions and/or performances) for the promotional use and purposes, should Team Canada Dance choose to do so in regards to the advertising of Team Canada Dance or the affiliated competitions and performances. You may contact us for exceptions.

  • SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY We encourage members to share their experiences through different social media. We encourage responsible use, and in a positive manner that leads by example for out youth. Contact us if you have a problem or see a problem on someone else's page/account.  

    Please note that our social media policies may be updated at any time. 

  • MEDICAL EMERGENCIES The information I have provided is true and correct to the best of my knowledge. If, in case of emergency, the person(s) that I have named cannot be reached after considerable effort, permission is granted to the Team Canada Dance, IDO Canada, IDO, IDO organizers, the choreographer, or those responsible to make arrangements to secure proper treatment or any other emergency procedures. I hereby declare any physical/mental problems, restrictions, or conditions and/or declare the participant to be in good physical and mental health.

    VACCINATION POLICY We are not liable for any medical/health-related risks or injuries incurred by and/or within the terms of participation. Dancers/personnel are expected to keep up with public health requirements, including vaccination and testing that could be subject to change at any time at their own risk

  • REFUND POLICY There are no refunds, however, refunds may be granted if notified 24 hrs in advance. and by review.  

    ZERO-TOLERANCE: If any member of my family, including the dancer, is not following the rules, including the Code of Conduct, the dancer may be withdrawn from the class with no refunds granted.  We have a zero-tolerance policy for unacceptable behaviours *see Code of Conduct.

  • SIGNATURE As the legal parent or guardian of the dancer or a dancer over the age of majority, I release and hold harmless Team Canada Dance, its owners, and operators from any and all liability, claims, demands, and causes of action whatsoever, arising out of or related to any loss, damage, or injury, that may be sustained by the participant and/or the undersigned, while in or upon the premises or any premises under the control and supervision of Team Canada Dance its owners and operators or in route to or from any of said premises.

    I know the risks connected with attending this event on this date. I agree not to hold accountable or bring legal action against the company, its officers, agents, or employees. This waiver releases the company from all liability relating to injuries that may occur on location before, during, or after activity.
     
    By signing this agreement, I agree to hold the company entirely free from any liability, including financial responsibility for injuries incurred, regardless of the reasons or circumstances.
     
    I acknowledge the risk involved with this activity, which includes but is not limited to, muscle tears, sprains, and other physical injuries. I certify that my participation is voluntary, and I have been made aware of the risks. Additionally, I do not have any conditions that may increase my likelihood of injury.
     
    I will obey the company personnel and all safety rules and ask for clarification if needed.
