Project Description
LexArts Inc. in association with 7-Eleven, seeks an artist to create a painted fiberglass horse for a new 7-Eleven location.
Our goal is to select an experienced artist who will create artwork that will celebrate the spirit of the community and the unique identity of the neighborhood and its surroundings, to be installed at 7-Eleven at Red Mile and Versailles Rd in Spring of 2026.
There is no application fee to enter.
Project Budget
The artist fee is $5,000. This is an all inclusive fee paid to the artist as work for hire. The artist fee will be paid half upon signing the contract and half upon project completion.
Three (3) semi-finalists will be selected from the Request for Qualifications and paid $500 to deliver a site specific design for the project. One artist will be selected to produce the painted horse.
Project Materials
The artist will have the freedom to use their choice of art materials and will be responsible for purchasing supplies with the artist fee. A fiberglass horse will be provided to the artist to paint. The artist will be responsible for transport of the horse to and from their studio. Completed artwork will be delivered to a facility in Lexington for a clear coat to be applied. LexArts will provide professional installation of the artwork.
Project Site
The selected site is a 7-Eleven to be located on Red Mile Rd at Versailles Rd, Lexington, KY.
Timeline

Application Guidelines
1. A one page artist statement describing public art experience and interest in the project (optional but encouraged)
2. A current resume (required)
3. Up to 6 digital images of past artwork with description of size, budget, year completed, location
Eligibility

Any artist 18 or over may apply.
Selection Process
The submitted qualifications will be reviewed by a selection committee comprised of 7-Eleven representatives. The committee will identify three artists as semi-finalists, who will be contracted to produce a site specific design. One artist will be selected to realize their design on the painted fiberglass horse.
