  • Sarasota Youth Opera is excited to announce the 2025 Youth Opera Production of Hans Krása’s Brundibár. 
     

    Performances of Brundibár will be on:

    • Saturday, November 8th, 5:00 PM
    • Sunday, November 9th, 12:00 PM
    • Monday, November 10th, 10:30 AM (schooltime matinee)

     

    The second round of auditions for the remaining solo roles will take place during the first week of the semester.


    Youth Opera members will also have the opportunity to audition to be a part of Sarasota Opera’s 2026 mainstage productions! This year, there are opportunities to be a part of the children's chorus in Puccini's La bohéme or supernumeraries (non-singing acting roles) in Floyd's Susannah. 

  • Are you a new or returning member of SYO?*

  • Atfter your submission, Ms. Cameron (Youth Opera Coordinator) will be in contact with you to schedule an audition. Auditions are by appointment only.

    Auditionees are asked to prepare and present one of the following:

    1) A classical or operatic aria of choice (please bring sheet music in the appropriate key)

    OR

    2) The Star-Spangled Banner, or another simple song familiar to the singer

    Singers may also be asked to do some simple vocal exercises to determine thier range with Maestro Jessé (Youth Opera Music Director) and Ms. Martha (Director of Education).

  • Prep Chorus: Ages 8-10

    Tuition: $250

    Must be 8 or older by December 31, 2025. 

    August-September: Saturdays, 10:00-11:00 AM

    October: Saturdays, 10:00-12:30 PM

    November: TBA On Stage, Piano Dress Rehearsals, and Orchestra Dress Rehearsals

     

    Mixed Chorus: Ages 11-18 (based on ability)

    Tuition: $325

    August-September: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 5:30-7:00 PM                                                                       Some Saturdays, 1:00-5:00 PM

    October: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 5:30-7:30 PM (soloists will be called until 8:30 PM)                                                                                                                                          Saturdays, 10:00-4:00 PM

    November: TBA On Stage, Piano Dress Rehearsals, and Orchestra Dress Rehearsals

     

    *The official rehearsal calendar will be sent out upon acceptance*

     

    Sibling Discount
    $25 off per singer with two or more singers from the same family.

    Tuition Assistance
    If you would like to request financial assistance for tuition, please fill out the questions on the last page. 

    For new applicants: Once your child has been accepted into the program, you will be informed of the amount of assistance awarded.

    For returning members: Assistance is again communicated to you within 5 business days of your registration submission.

  • SYO processes tuition on a semester basis. The amounts and info below pertain to the Fall 2025 semester only.

    Tuition is non-refundable and cannot be pro-rated. If a singer should join late in the semester, discontinue before the semester ends, or be asked to leave due to behavior and/or attendance issues, no refunds will be made and any remaining payments will continue to be processed for those who choose the Payment Plan option.

    There is a $25 reservation fee towards your tuition for the Payment Plan. These options can be chosen when you get the follow-up email after you have submitted this form.

  • I give permission for my child’s full participation in Sarasota Youth Opera (SYO). 

    I hereby permit the use of my child’s name, quotations, performances, voice and likeness in print or any other medium, including without limitation to photographs, video recordings, and/or audio recordings (collectively “Recordings”) in connection with SYO activities for any purposes SYO may desire, including without limitation to advertisements and other publications, film, videotape, audio tapes, television, social media or theatrical use approved by Sarasota Opera Association (SOA) staff. I further herby assign any and all of my child’s copyright interests in such Recordings to SOA.

    I understand this submission is an application to audition to be a member of Sarasota Youth Opera. No guarantee will be made of placement in the program. 

    Prior to the first rehearsal you will receive a Medical Release Form to be filled out and notarized before coming to rehearsal. There will be a notary at the first few rehearsals to help complete this paperwork.
