    The "Summer Writing Contest" will kick-off  is now accepting submissions through Sept 30.

    *Contestants must be Ages: 13-18 years of age

    Essay Subject Matter:

    Please describe the pivotal role of your church played in the African American community as it relates to Civil Rights, race relations, and pushing the culture forward as well as how that legacy continues to shape our communities today. Participants will also examine the impact of gentrification on neighborhoods and churches, reflecting on the challenges and changes facing historically rooted institutions. This contest invites thoughtful perspectives on the past, present, and future of faith, justice, and community.

    Formatting Requirements: 

    Word count - 1000 words

    *A computer is needed, because all essays will be in digital. 
    Layout should be a Word Doc or PDF. Your essay will be judged and the most impactful essay will be give 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Place. 

    All sources must be cited and in the writers own words with relevant details. All quotations should be cited as copyright regulations apply and will be applicable.  Any violations may result in disqualification from being selected as winner. 

    *Contestants will be eligible for an internship at the D.C. Voice based on impact and quality of written work

    Prizes are as follows: 

    1st Place - $500

    2nd Place - $200

    3rd Place - $100

     

     

  • PHOTOGRAPH & VIDEO Release and Authorization Agreement

    I hereby grant permission to the rights of my image, likeness and sound of my voice as recorded on audio or video tape without payment or any other consideration. I understand that my image may be edited, copied, exhibited, published or distributed and waive the right to inspect or approve the finished product wherein my likeness appears. Additionally, I waive any right to royalties or other compensation arising or related to the use of my image or recording. I also understand that this material may be used in diverse educational settings within an unrestricted geographic area.

     

    Photographic, audio or video recordings may be used for the following purposes:

     

    • conference presentations

    • educational presentations or courses

    • informational presentations

    • on-line educational courses

    • educational videos

     

    By signing this release I understand this permission signifies that photographic or video recordings of me may be electronically displayed via the Internet or in the public educational setting. I will be consulted about the use of the photographs or video recording for any purpose other than those listed above. There is no time limit on the validity of this release nor is there any geographic limitation on where these materials may be distributed.
