Communicating To Your Direct Scope
👥 What Is Your “Direct Scope”?
Your direct scope includes the volunteer leaders and team members you personally lead and communicate with regularly.
📝 When Is Copyediting Required?
All written communications (email & snail mail) must go through the copyediting request process—except when they meet one of the following clear exemptions:
✅ NO copyediting needed if your message is:
- Sent only to those in your direct scope
- Posted to your ministry/location’s official social media channel(s)
- A text message sent to a pre-approved Clearstream list
🟡 Not sure if your message qualifies? Ask yourself:
- Am I communicating only with those I lead directly?
- Could this message reach people outside my team (e.g., across ministries, locations, etc.)?
- Am I unclear who’s receiving this?
If there’s any mix, or you’re unsure, submit it for copyediting. We’d rather catch it early than miss something important.
💡 Best Practice
Even if your message qualifies for an exemption, peer review is always encouraged to keep communication clear, consistent, and on mission.
