  • Seeking 5 talented Freddy Award-nominated vocalists ...

Each year in February, the Allentown Symphony Orchestra holds their Youth & Family concert series. This coming year, our theme will be "America: 250!" to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independance and our official birth as a nation. There are two days of school shows (Wednesday February 25 and Thursday February 26, 9:30am and 11:30am on both days) as well as a Family show open to families and the public on Saturday, February 28 at 2:00pm. The program will feature both classical favorites and Broadway hits that highlight the themes of wartime, independence, and liberty. Three (3) of the pieces in the program are vocal features and we are partnering with the State Theater and the Freddy Awards to find 5 outstanding high school student soloists to sing with the full Allentown Symphony Orchestra on our historic Miller Symphony Hall stage in February! To be eligible to apply, you must have been involved in the 2025 Freddy Awards, and you must be a current freshman, sophomore or junior in high school. Current seniors are eligible if you plan to remain in the Lehigh Valley the next academic year. Finally, before applying, you must verify that you are available the week of February 23-28 for all rehearsals and concerts. Please see the details about each of the three songs below to learn more specifics and requirements for each of these pieces. You are welcome to apply for more than one of the pieces if you fit the specifications of each role outlined below. All audition music will be provided to Kori Lotito, who will distribute it to eligible students. We encourage you to listen to various renditions of these pieces, to learn about the story behind the song and show us your acting ability in your audition video, because our selected soloists will be in costume and expected to tell the story to our audience through both their voice and their expressions. We know we have extremely talented young singers here in the Lehigh Valley and we're really looking forward to reviewing your submissions this summer! Please submit your videos here by SEPTEMBER 15, 2025. All submissions will be reviewed by the Allentown Symphony Conductor and Music Director, Diane Wittry, our Guest Conductor, Brent Chancellor, and the Allentown Symphony Chorus Master Director, Eduardo Azzatti. Selected vocalists will be announced at the start of next school year (most likely in late September or early October). If you have any questions, please email Carolyn Powell, Director of Education at cpowell@allentownsymphony.org.
