True North Policies
Sick Policy and Exclusions
Pick up is required within an hour after the school contacts you. If you are not able to pick up within this timeframe, please use one of your authorized pickup contacts. If your child is sent home sick, they may not return to school the same day. Students will be sent home with the following symptoms and required to stay home for at least 24 hours symptom free without medication, or for the length of time they may be contagious: - Fever of 100 or over - Vomiting - Diarrhea - Rash - Excessive Fatigue - Symptoms caused by vaccinations Parents are required to inform the school if their child is diagnosed with an illness by a physician. * If children do not have these symptoms but cannot make it through the school day without medicine, they should stay home to rest and recuperate.
Drop-off & Pick-Up Policies
Morning drop off is from 8:00am to 8:15am. Families that drop-off after 8:15am more than 3 times a month will incur a $10 fee for every late day thereafter. After 9am entry for the day will be denied. The beginning of the day sets the tone for the whole day. Chronically late students impact the entire class and will not be tolerated. Further consequences may be taken if a student is chronically late.
Afternoon car line will be from 2:30pm to 2:45pm. Starting at 2:45pm, late pick-ups will incur a $15 late fee and a $5 fee for every five minutes late in picking up. Late pick up fees will also occur at 3:45 for 3:30 pick-ups and 4:45 for 4:30 pick-ups and so on. This will be added on to your monthly payment.
Children may NEVER be dropped off or picked up without face-to-face contact with a staff member. Children must be accounted for at all times.

By enrolling, you are giving permission for your child's photos/videos in a group form to be posted on public platforms such as facebook, instagram, True North website, etc. Pictures and videos are a common day necessity in marketing for the financial health of our school.
Please let us know if you prefer your child not to be posted in individual pictures or videos and we will do our best to respect your wishes. *This is not a guarantee your child will not be posted in group photos/videos.
Additional Information and Permissions
Families that choose a Monday through Thursday schedule may not use Fridays as a make-up day for any reason, including sickness or vacations. Attendance schedules may not change mid month. A fee of $50 will be assessed for schedule changes from month to month.
It is required that your child be allowed to use indoor and outdoor equipment as part of our practical life/self regulation/physical education curriculum. Such equipment could include: a rebounder, play ground equipment, zip line, climbing dome, gardening tools, and so on. It is required that your child be allowed to use cooking appliances, knives, stove, oven, etc Please sign as acknowledgment.
In the instance that the school has indoor or outdoor pets/animals all children will be allowed to safely interact and participate in chores relating to the animals care, unless your child has an allergy.
As part of practical life curriculum, all children will be required to participate in cleaning the classroom and school. This includes cleaning the bathrooms, taking out the garbage, sweeping and mopping the floors, washing dishes, doing the laundry, and any other chores that are needed. These are practical life skills that are important to develop at a young age. Cleaning supplies will be nontoxic and safe to use. Gloves will be used when cleaning the bathrooms, taking out the garbage, or caring for pets, and as necessary.
Electronic devices of any kind will not be allowed on school property. These include but are not limited to: smart watches, phones, tablets, video games, cameras, and more. If brought to school, teachers will confiscate devices and parents will need to pick them up.
True North is not ultimately or financially responsible for the loss of, theft of, or damage to any personal items brought onto school property by students, parents, or visitors. This includes, but is not limited to, incidents such as a child cutting or otherwise damaging their own clothing, lunch box, water bottle or other belongings being lost, broken, or tampered with by the student or others. Individuals are encouraged to leave valuable or sentimental items at home, as all personal property is brought to school at the owner’s own risk.
Please note, as part of our nature and wellness focused curriculum your child may be outside for long periods of time and exposed to variations in temperature, including the heat of summer or the chill of winter. This also includes other naturally occurring elements such as sunshine, wind, water sources, rain, snow, ice, bugs, grass, pollen, animals etc. Your child may NOT opt out of mandatory outdoor activities. Children are required to come to school prepared to spend time in whatever weather is present on any given day. Children will not be outside in dangerous conditions.
Field Trips
In the event that your child does not have permission or the ability to attend an off-campus field trip,True North will not be providing alternative care and the child may not stay on campus. It is the parent's responsibility to find care for their child.
Transportation for field trips may be provided by True North or we may ask parents to drive from time to time. In the event that parents are drivers, other siblings and family members may not join in the field trip.
Fundraisers, Donations, & Gifts
Any and all gifts or donations given to True North or staff is considered a gift with no strings attached. Gifts will not be considered as tuition payment, present or future, nor does it give parents entitlement to decisions at True North or priority status in any way. This policy is meant to establish boundaries that maintain positive relationships between the school and families.
From time-to-time True North may have fundraisers for the school. It is our goal to create a community where everyone feels like they are a part of a win-win. Therefore, families should never feel obligated to participate if they do not feel called to or able to.
Self-Care Expectations for Students
True North is committed to high quality education and care of the children, and will never ignore a child in need. However, children must be able to independently care for themselves in the following ways:
Requests & Concerns
Parents should feel free to politely make requests or state their preferences in any regard. However, it is not possible to run a smooth program with constant changes and often opposite requests from parents. Therefore, parents should not feel entitled to frequent or small changes. Changes that effect the entire class will not be accommodated. By enrolling at True North, you acknowledge that you are enrolling in the program and services offered by True North. True North does not personally work for any family, nor do we act as private teachers, tutors, or care takers.
True North strongly believes in not undermining the respect and authority of parents. In the same way, we expect parents to maintain a respectful attitude of the school, administrators, and teachers in front of their children. When teachers set boundaries with children, we expect parents to support the teacher's decisions. We are a team and as such, we must give each other the benefit of doubt, communicate clearly, and show respect during disagreements. Teacher mistrust is a social trend, and although it may have started for a reason, it directly hurts the ability of teachers to make the right decisions for individual students as well as the class as a whole.
Permission, Release & Liability Waivers
Families may not enroll at True North Elementary without giving permission for their children to participate in all required activities. By completing this enrollment form, permission is given to the enrolled child to engage in all True North activities and events.
By enrolling in True North Elementary, my family and I are knowledgeable of the school policies and agree to abide by all of them. Breaking any one of these rules may result in fees, fines, penalties, denied entry, suspensions, immediate dismissal or the inability to re-enroll the next school year.
Release and Liability Waiver : I hereby give my permission for my child to participate in daily activities at True North Elementary including field trips away from the school premises. Participation in any program which involves attendance and physical activity exposes the student to certain risks and dangers. Accidents and injuries are always a possibility, and it is impossible to foresee and protect the students from all conceivable dangers physically or emotionally. I will NOT hold True North Elementary or its employers, staff, affiliates, agents, or any other entity or individual connected to them, either directly or indirectly, liable for any result or injury from my student attending school. In consideration of my child’s enrollment and participation at True North Elementary, I hereby take action for myself, my executors, administrators, heirs, next of kin, successors, and assigns as follows:(A) I WAIVE, RELEASE, AND DISCHARGE True North Education LLC from any and all liability, including but not limited to, liability arising from the negligence or fault of the entities or persons released, for my child’s death, disability, personal injury, property damage, property theft, or actions of any kind which may hereafter occur to my child. THE FOLLOWING ENTITIES OR PERSONS: The owners, directors, employees, volunteers, representatives, and agents of any and all entities authorizing this school, as well as the owners of the property; (B) INDEMNIFY, HOLD HARMLESS, AND PROMISE NOT TO SUE the entities or persons mentioned in this paragraph from any and all liabilities or claims made as a result of participation and attendance at this school, whether caused by the negligence of release or otherwise; (C) By signing this agreement, the signee agrees not to make or publish, especially on any social media platform, any negative commentary or review, which includes sharing email or text conversations between the owner or staff of True North Elementary and parents, personal conflicts with owner or staff not related to the school, false, misleading, or disparaging statements, whether oral or written, that could harm the reputation of the Organization, its staff, affiliates, or partners. Family members also may not give negative reviews with the sole purpose of trying to force or blackmail True North Elementary into giving refunds, change of enrollment status, or in any way try to force the hand of the owners and teachers when a parent doesn't like a policy. The Participant understands that defamatory statements may cause serious harm and acknowledges that the Organization retains the right to pursue legal remedies in response to any such conduct. This clause does not restrict the Participant’s right to report unlawful conduct in good faith to appropriate authorities, but True North Education LLC does reserve the right to dispute and sue for damages over false or inaccurate claims or reports. Medical Treatment Permission: In the event of illness or injury to my child while under school supervision, I hereby authorize True North Elementary and its representatives, employees, or agents to obtain and authorize all emergency medical treatment as deemed necessary, including the administration of anti-choking devices, epi-pens, over the counter medications supplied by parents, the transportation by ambulance, the administration of all drugs and treatments, including anesthesia and/or surgery, for the health and safety of my child. I understand that reasonable efforts will be made to contact me before such treatment is administered, but in the event I cannot be reached, I give permission to the attending medical personnel to provide any necessary care. I also promise to provide all necessary medical information to True North Elementary so proper medical decisions can be made for your child. I agree to be responsible for any costs incurred for such emergency medical care and transportation. Parental Responsibility for Property Damage I, the undersigned parent or legal guardian, acknowledge and agree that I am financially responsible for any damage to school property caused by myself, my child or any member of my family, friends, employees, or anyone who is at the school by my association whether such damage is intentional, accidental, or the result of tantrums, fits, medical episodes, behavioral issues, or negligence. I understand that the school may seek reimbursement for the cost of repair or replacement of damaged items or facilities and that failure to do so may result in further action as permitted by law. I CERTIFY THAT I HAVE READ THIS DOCUMENT AND I FULLY UNDERSTAND ITS CONTENT. I AM AWARE THAT THIS IS A RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND A CONTRACT AND I SIGN IT OF MY OWN FREE WILL. WHEN REGISTERING ONLINE, MY ONLINE SIGNATURE SHALL SUBSTITUTE FOR AND HAVE THE SAME LEGAL EFFECT AS IF I HAD SIGNED A WAIVER AND RELEASE AGREEMENT.
